ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH & SAFETY CONTROLLER – KITWE PROCESSING X1
Responsibilities or duties
- Driving implementation of EHS standards in line with ISO 45001, 14001 & 39001, Global G.A.P and IFC performance standards.
- Designing, developing, and implementing measures to promote the importance of EHS and making sure that the Group’s business operations meet statutory requirements and Good International Industry Practice (GIIP).
- Proactively identifying, assessing, and controlling workplace risks while enforcing safety standards and promoting safe behavior to prevent injuries and ensure a safe working environment.
- Liaising with Zambia Environmental Management Agency (ZEMA) inspectors, Local Authority Inspectors, and other enforcement officials as required.
- Preparing EHS related permit and EIA applications in time.
- Identifying opportunities to implement technology related to energy efficiency, water efficiency and waste reduction.
- Participating in the ongoing development requirements of the company’s EHS management program and compliance and carrying out internal audits
- Overseeing the process of EHS data aggregation and input into the company’s sustainability tracking and reporting.
- Coordinating and assisting with technical training and overall competency to management and employees with regards to the operational aspects of the EHS programs, operational methods and personnel practices, and maintenance for environmental sustainability and safe work place. Ensuring Company Reports and meets its GHG emissions and reduction targets
- Nurturing good working relationships both within and across departments/divisions under the EHS program.
- Monitoring and measuring sustainability performance indicators including energy, greenhouse gas emissions, waste and recycling, water and agricultural practices.
- Communicating progress on ESG strategy and programs, enhancing visibility through qualitative and quantitative reports
- Developing EHS strategies to improve ESG performance and goals
- Mitigating EHS risks
- reporting and improving understanding and integration of EHS in the overall business and communication strategy
- Developing, implementing, and managing programs, policies, and actions in which multiple sectors within and outside the business communicate and work together to achieve better environmental, health, safety ,and social performance.
Qualifications or requirements (e.g., education, skills)
- Grade 12 Certificate.
- Bachelor's degree in Environmental Engineering/Occupational Health and Safety/ Environmental Sciences
- More than 5 years of hands-on post-qualification environmental experience
- 5+ years operational experience across various functions, direct operational experience advantageous.
- Member of the Engineering Institute of Zambia (EIZ)/ ZOHSA/Relevant professional body

- Good judgement and good decision-making ability
- Committed team player with the ability to interact with all levels of employees in the organisation
