Responsibilities or duties
- Perform laboratory tests, experiments, and analyses following established protocols to support fish health and water quality monitoring.
- Collect and process samples accurately, documenting observations and results in compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Maintain and calibrate laboratory equipment and instruments to ensure precise and reliable test outcomes.
- Conduct daily feed quality assessments, promptly identifying and reporting any under-specification issues.
- Carry out post-mortem dissections of fish at various stages to assist in disease diagnosis and management.
- Monitor water quality, often directly on the lake, to support environmental and operational standards.
- Maintain cleanliness and orderliness of laboratory workspaces and equipment to uphold safety and hygiene standards.
- Assist in developing and validating laboratory methods, procedures, and quality assurance processes.
- Collaborate with laboratory staff and contribute technical support to research projects and stakeholder engagements.
- Participate in professional development activities, including meetings and training sessions, to stay current with industry best practices.
- Adhere strictly to safety protocols and demonstrate professionalism and integrity in all work activities.
Qualifications or requirements (e.g., education, skills)
- Diploma in Laboratory Technology, Microbiology, Biochemical Sciences, Aquaculture, or Fisheries.
- Grade 12 (Senior Secondary) Certificate.
- Certificates in Laboratory Practice/Technology and Food Safety will be advantageous.
Experience needed
- 2 to 4 years of practical experience in laboratory analysis related to water quality and/or fish health.
- Proven experience in fish disease diagnosis, management, and fish husbandry.
- Background in Quality Assurance within a laboratory or manufacturing environment.
