Background

We are seeking a highly skilled and results-driven Maintenance Foreman to oversee maintenance operations across our Northern Region. This role is critical in ensuring equipment uptime, cold-chain reliability, and successful delivery of maintenance and expansion projects. The Maintenance Foreman North is responsible for leading maintenance technicians, coordinating asset maintenance activities, and delivering KPI driven performance across facilities, refrigeration systems, vehicles, and infrastructure. The role ensures safe, compliant, and efficient operations in line with business objectives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage all maintenance activities across Northern region facilities, stores, depots, vehicles, and cold chain assets.
  • Ensure maximum equipment uptime for refrigeration, freezing, electrical, mechanical, and general facility assets.
  • Implement and enforce preventive and predictive maintenance programmes aligned to OEM standards and operational risk profiles.
  • Conduct routine inspections and condition assessments to proactively identify failures and mitigate downtime.
  • Ensure rapid response and effective resolution of breakdowns, minimizing operational disruption.
  • Supervise, deploy, and develop maintenance technicians across the North.
  • Allocate daily and weekly jobs, ensuring proper planning, execution, and closure of work orders.
  • Support and execute freezing capacity expansions, cold room installations, and refrigeration upgrades.
  • Coordinate construction, fit-out, and improvement works for stores, depots, and operational facilities.
  • Work closely with internal stakeholders and external contractors to deliver projects on time, within budget, and to specification.
  • Participate in commissioning, decommissioning, and handover of new or relocated assets.
  • Ensure all jobs are properly logged, documented, and closed on Fiix.
  • Track maintenance backlog, response times, and completion rates against agreed KPIs.
  • Oversee maintenance and operational readiness of company vehicles within the North.
  • Ensure compliance with servicing schedules, inspections, licensing, and safety requirements.
  • Monitor vehicle downtime, fuel efficiency, and maintenance costs.
  • Support procurement with technical input, scoping, and vendor evaluations.
  • Identify opportunities to improve reliability, reduce repeat failures, and optimize maintenance spend.
  • Ensure full compliance with SHE, food safety, and statutory maintenance requirements.
  • Enforce permit-to-work, risk assessments, and safe systems of work.
  • Maintain audit-ready maintenance records and support compliance inspections.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

  • Equipment uptime and reliability targets.
  • Preventive maintenance compliance rates.
  • Breakdown response and job closure timelines.
  • Project delivery performance (time, cost, quality).
  • Maintenance cost control and budget adherence.
  • Safety and compliance performance.

Minimum Qualifications & Experience

  • Degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Mechatronics Engineering.
  • Minimum of 4 - 6 years relevant maintenance experience.
  • Freezing and refrigeration maintenance experience is an added advantage.
  • Valid driver’s licence.
  • Paid-up member of the Engineering Institution of Zambia (EIZ).
  • ZAQA-certified qualifications are mandatory.
