Zambia Sugar Plc. is an ABF Sugar Company and is the leading sugar producer in Zambia. Its main activities are the growing of sugar cane, the production and marketing of sugar and other sugar downstream products.

The Company invites applications from suitably qualified and experienced persons to fill the following position in the Manufacturing Department:

POSITION: PACKING TECHNICIAN – MECHANICAL x 1 (PERMANENT)

This position reports to the Maintenance Foreman – Packing Station.

Responsibilities or duties

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Knowledge on pneumatic / hydraulic circuits and basic scale calibration on packing equipment.
  • Complete repair works, service and maintain packing machine, conveyors, gearboxes, pumps, piping works, valves, couplings and pulley etc.
  • Carry out machine overhaul of packing equipment and perform RCAs to ensure corrective and preventative actions are completed.
  • Ensure the lubrication of all equipment in the area is performed to standard and as per PM WO plan.
  • Inspect and replace defective timing belts and vee belts plus belt conveyor splicing on all drive units.
  • Repack glands on various valves, pumps and stuffing box for scrolls etc.
  • Interpret drawings plus basic fabrication, welding and cutting of various simple steel components.
  • Ensure the Workshop/ Packing plant and equipment meets the “5S” standard.
  • Create Job Plans for Artisans / Checklist and inspections on the WO is diligently followed as per the work-order tasks. Provide detailed feedback in terms of: (a) Actual work done / corrective actions taken (b) Man hours used, (c) Quantity of materials used, (d) Tools and (e) Failure mode where necessary
  • Ensure continuous improvement by implementing functional best practices and artisan engagements.
  • Monitor own section KPIs , understand your contribution to them, contribute to solutions to resolve out of spec KPIs and maintain actions to sustain KPIs being within spec .
  • Promote and adhere to Illovo’s procedures, policies and guidelines, including, without limitation, those relating to SHERQ, Competition Law and Anti-Bribery and Corruption (ABC)
  • Use the principle of Defect Elimination and demonstrate this in the quality of your maintenance practices (Illovo way of maintenance – iAMP).

Qualifications or requirements (e.g., education, skills)

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Full grade 12 Certificate.
  • Minimum Diploma in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and assertively, Ability to work in a team, Computer Literate and ability to multi-task effectively.
  • Suitably qualified applicants must provide Certificates which have been verified by the Zambia Qualifications Authority (ZAQA).

Experience needed

  • 2 years + post experience in a robust packaging plant environment
  • 2+ years’ experience in the sugar industry is an added advantage.
