Our client in Zambia is looking for a Senior Accountant to join their team within the Mining Manufacturing Equipment Industry.
Position Overview
The Senior Accountant will play a critical role in managing the company’s financial operations, ensuring compliance with accounting standards, and supporting strategic decision-making. This position requires a Chartered Accountant (CA) qualification, ZICTA accreditation, and hands-on experience with SAP and payroll systems. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to lead financial processes that drive efficiency and accuracy across the organization.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Management & Reporting
- Prepare, review, and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in compliance with IFRS and local regulations.
- Ensure accuracy of general ledger entries, reconciliations, and financial records.
- Oversee statutory reporting and tax compliance, including VAT, PAYE, and corporate tax submissions.
- Support external and internal audits, ensuring timely provision of documentation and compliance with audit requirements.
Systems & Process Management
- Utilize SAP for financial reporting, reconciliations, and system-based controls.
- Implement and monitor internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure compliance with financial policies.
- Streamline accounting processes to improve efficiency and accuracy.
Payroll Administration
- Oversee payroll processing, ensuring accuracy of employee records, statutory deductions, and timely disbursement of salaries.
- Ensure compliance with labor laws and statutory requirements related to payroll.
- Provide payroll reports and analysis to management for decision-making.
Budgeting & Forecasting
- Assist in preparation of annual budgets and financial forecasts.
- Conduct variance analysis and provide insights into cost control and efficiency.
- Monitor departmental expenditures against approved budgets.
Leadership & Collaboration
- Provide guidance and mentorship to junior accountants and finance staff.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support business operations and financial planning.
- Maintain strong relationships with external stakeholders including auditors, tax authorities, and financial institutions.
Qualifications & Experience
- Chartered Accountant (CA) qualification.
- ZICTA accredited.
- Minimum of 5–7 years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 3 years in a senior role.
- Strong proficiency in SAP financial modules.
- Proven experience in payroll administration.
- In-depth knowledge of IFRS, Zambian tax laws, and regulatory compliance.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other financial tools.
