Job Description

Lumwana Mining Company seeks to recruit a highly committed employee for the position of Senior Construction Superintendent TSF – LEP (Fixed Term) to join the Project Department. We are in search of an individual who can champion Barrick’s DNA by:

Reporting to the Construction Lead – LEP, you will be responsible for ensuring all aspects of the TSF/WSF construction process, and that projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest safety and quality standards.

The TSF planned for the Lumwana Expansion will increase the current storage to 2 billion tonnes of tailings and will be among the largest tailings storage facilities globally. It will be constructed and raised significantly over the coming years and presents an exciting opportunity to be involved with a large TSF construction on a world-class project.

Your duties will include but are not limited to the following:

  • Supervisor daily operations on the construction site, coordinating between various trades and subcontractors to ensure smooth progression of work.
  • Lead and supervise all construction activities associated with Tailings Storage Facilities (TSF), Water Storage Facilities (WSF) ensuring safe, efficient, and quality project execution.
  • Review and approve contractor schedules, construction methodologies, quality management systems, and project execution plans, while monitoring performance and implementing corrective actions where required.
  • Lead construction progress meetings, coordinate project interfaces, resolve technical and construction issues, and maintain effective communication with Clients, Engineers, Operations Teams, and Contractors.
  • Ensure all TSF works are executed in accordance with approved drawings, specifications, quality requirements, environmental obligations, regulatory requirements, budgets, and project schedules.
  • Monitor construction progress, productivity, cost, quality, and resource utilization to ensure successful delivery of project objectives.
  • Coordinate construction interfaces between TSF works, utilities, operations, and other project work packages to ensure efficient project execution and successful project delivery.
  • Maintain accurate project records and reporting systems, including progress tracking, construction documentation, and contractor performance reporting.
  • Coordinate with the Designers, Operations Teams, and Contractors to ensure compliance with approved designs and safety requirements.
  • Provide leadership, mentoring, and development support to supervisors and construction personnel while driving continuous improvement in project execution and operational readiness

To be considered for the position, you must meet the following requirements:

  • Full Grade Twelve School Certificate
  • Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Engineering, Construction Management, Mining Engineering, or related Engineering discipline
  • Member of the Engineering Institution of Zambia
  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience in mining project execution, with at least 5 years’ experience in the construction and delivery of Tailings Storage Facilities (TSF), Water Storage Facilities (WSF), large earthworks, or major mine infrastructure projects.
  • Qualification in Tailings Management with demonstrated knowledge of the Global Industry Standard on Tailings Management (GISTM), dam safety principles, and tailings governance requirements.
  • Strong knowledge of construction methods, materials, and regulations.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in construction management software, Microsoft Project, and the Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must have a valid Manual Driver’s License
