JOB DETAILS:

NICO Insurance Zambia Limited, a general insurance company, has been operating in Zambia since 1st October 1997, and has branches in Lusaka, Kitwe, Ndola, Livingstone and Chipata. NICO Insurance Zambia Limited is a member of NICO Group of Companies operating in Malawi, and Sanlam through Sanlam Allianz. The Company is now seeking to identify a qualified individual to be engaged as Underwriting Manager – Corporate Business who shall report to the Chief Operations Officer.

The Underwriting Manager – Corporate Business shall be responsible for all commercial and corporate business functions of the company.

Main duties will include the following:

• Review incoming mail and direct how it should be dealt with.
• Implementation of the Underwriting Philosophy so that the company writes profitable and collectable business to meet the set targets.
• Reviews and proposes changes to the underwriting policy in line with the prevailing conditions.
• Reviews and proposes changes to policy wordings and Underwriting Manuals.
• Preparation of weekly, monthly, and quarterly reports.
• Ensure that cancellation notices are sent to clients whose premiums have not been paid monthly.
• Provision of quotations to clients and liaises with Chief Operating Officer on special cases.
• Review poor performing accounts and recommend changes to Chief Operating Officer.
• Signing of cover notes, policies, endorsements, loss facing sheets and cheques.
• Reviewing all placing slips received to ensure that they match with agreed terms. Signing the same as sign of acceptance and returning a copy to the broker
• Ensuring that all policies and endorsements are issued within 30 days from receipt of closing instructions.
• Ensuring that renewal reviews are done eight weeks before renewal and renewal invitations are sent out six (6) weeks before renewal.
• Ensuring that all quotations are issued within 24 hours of receipt of such requests.
• Marketing of company products
• Ensuring that all customer complaints on underwriting matters are attended to within 24 hours of receipt.

Requirements:

• Have a first degree in Insurance and preferably an Advanced Diploma in Insurance from the Chartered Institute of Insurance or equivalent.
• Have a minimum of ten (10) years’ experience, three (3) of which should be at managerial level in the general insurance industry.
• Proven knowledge of insurance standards and procedures.
• High attention to detail and excellent analytical skills.
• Sound independent judgement and high integrity.
• Paid-up member of Insurance Association of Zambia.

Level of Education: Bachelor’s degree
