Position Overview

Zanaco Bank Plc is inviting applications from suitably qualified and experienced individuals for the following job aimed at contributing to the Bank’s strategic vision, in the Credit Division under the Corporate Credit Department at Head Office – Support Functions:

Role Description

Job Purpose: The role is responsible for undertaking credit analysis for corporate customers by performing historical trend and ratio analysis and properly assessing cashflow projections, collateral, industry risks, guarantor strength where applicable and all other major credit risk components before recommending credit applications for approval. The role is also responsible for preparing credit packs for approval by the Management Credit Committee and/or Board Credit Committee.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Perform historical trends and ratio analysis and properly assess cash flow, collateral, industry risks, guarantor strength and all other major risks to the Bank in lending to these customers.
  • Participate in preparation of credit packs, i.e. Board Credit packs.
  • Participate in reviews of Credit Policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Process credit applications by undertaking analysis/evaluations for both new and existing customers.
  • Innovatively structure credit transactions and utilize various financing options to ensure that customer needs are met consistently with risk management philosophy and principles.
  • Participate in coordinating all activities to implement company policies, frameworks, procedures, and practices concerning underwriting, applications, and granting or extending credit.
  • Participate in credit training.
  • Analyze applicant’s financial status, credit and property evaluation to determine feasibility of granting loan requests.
  • Show a clear and demonstrable contribution to developing and enhancing Trading Profit, with special emphasis being placed upon revenue generation and minimizing costs.
  • Actively monitor sanctioned facilities and ensure that there are no overdue reviews.
  • Effectively prepare and participate in departmental monthly Portfolio Review Meetings and carry out tasks as assigned from time to time.
  • Effectively prepare and participate in Potential Provisions meetings when called upon.
  • Participate in credit committee meetings where credit papers are being discussed.
  • Follow up all Early Alert Accounts and give feedback to the business so that these accounts are proactively managed and regularized.
  • Ensure credit files are complete with important documents (i.e. limit sheets, offer letters, CRB reports, financials, credit papers, board/MCC resolutions etc.
  • Act as training resource person when called upon.
  • Approve credit applications within delegated discretional limit, where applicable.
  • Review and update credit policy, forex policy, Management Credit Committee terms of reference and department procedure manual.
  • Participate in and agree upon Action Plans for Credit Department and ensure effective follow-through.
  • Ensure compliance with the Bank’s standards and regulatory requirements pertaining to Money Laundering and KYC.
  • Participate in and/or support the Bank’s efforts in combating money-laundering activities.
  • Exercise due care and diligence on matters related to Money Laundering and KYC in the day-to-day operations, which include account reviews, transaction monitoring, reporting suspicious customer communication, implementing new requirements, updating and revising operating procedures, acquiring relevant knowledge and training, providing support to superiors and subordinates.
  • Interact with business officers to gather information relative to a customer being analyzed or to discuss issues with the credit.
  • Occasionally attends joint calls with the relationship managers/credit analysts to gather more information about the customers.
  • Acts as a training resource for Junior Credit Analysts and new entrants when called upon.
  • Any other duties as assigned by superiors.

  • External: Bank of Zambia, CRB, External Auditors, service providers.
  • Internal: All relevant internal business units.

Requirements

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Full Grade 12 Certificate with 5 Credits including English & Mathematics.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business Administration or related field.
  • Five (5) years’ working experience in a similar role.
  • Experience in analysing financials and cash flow projections with proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
  • Experience in preparation of credit packs, i.e. board credit packs.
  • Experience with financial analysis, Excel, Word, Moody’s CreditLens.
