Role Overview

Sunline International Logistics Zambia is seeking a seasoned and detail-oriented Fleet Operations Manager to oversee and optimize the company’s fleet management activities. The ideal candidate will bring 3+ years of hands-on experience in fleet operations within a logistics or transportation setting, with deep expertise in vehicle maintenance, route planning, driver supervision and compliance with transport regulations. The Fleet Operations Manager will be responsible for ensuring efficient utilization of company vehicles, minimizing downtime, controlling operational costs and maintaining safety standards across all fleet operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Fleet oversight: Oversee the entire fleet of vehicles, ensuring efficient and safe operations.
  • Policy development: Develop and implement fleet management policies and procedures.
  • Vehicle maintenance: Schedule regular maintenance and inspections for all vehicles.
  • Procurement management: Manage vehicle procurement, leasing, and disposal processes.
  • Route optimization: Coordinate driver schedules and routes to optimize efficiency and reduce costs.
  • Performance monitoring: Monitor vehicle performance and implement improvements as needed.
  • Regulatory compliance: Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations and safety standards.
  • Record keeping: Maintain accurate records of vehicle maintenance, inspections, and driver performance.
  • Driver supervision: Supervise and train drivers, ensuring they adhere to company policies and safety guidelines.
  • Reporting: Prepare reports on fleet performance, budgeting and cost-saving measures for management.
  • Fuel management: Oversee diesel/fuel management and implement cost minimization strategies.
  • Driver behavior control: Monitor and manage driver behavior to ensure safety, efficiency and compliance.

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor or above, majoring in Logistics/Transportation.
  • Industry experience: More than 3 years of experience in the cross-border transportation industry in Southern Africa.
  • Driver management: At least 1 year of proven experience managing 50+ drivers.
  • Technical skills: Familiarity with GPS monitoring systems and proficiency in Excel data analysis.
  • Regulatory knowledge: Strong understanding of fleet and freight safety regulations, with the ability to independently handle accident claims and violation appeals.
  • Leadership qualities: Strong principles, capable of enforcing discipline and maintaining high operational standards.
  • Flexibility: Ability to adapt to occasional emergency response work at night or on holidays.
  • Professional licensing: Paid-up member of the Zambia Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport holding a valid ZCILT practicing license.
