Background

Zambia Sugar Plc is an ABF Group sugar company and is the leading sugar producer in Zambia. Its main activities are the growing of sugar cane, the production and marketing of sugar and other sugar downstream products.

Zambia Sugar carries out Off-Crop maintenance works in the Factory for a duration of up to four (4) months and invites applications from suitably qualified and experienced persons to fill Off-Crop positions in the Manufacturing Department.

Overall Responsibility

These positions report to the Lead Artisans – Construction Fabrication. The successful candidates will be responsible for fabricating and installing maintenance structures such as chutes, tanks, carriers, conveyors etc.

Key Performance Areas

• Use the welding machine to carry out spot, butt and tack welding prior to full assembly.
• Use oxy-acetylene equipment proficiently in all cutting positions for pre-assembly.
• Read and interpret technical drawings for structural works and assembly.
• Use pedestal drilling, adjustable speed drilling machine, centre punch, hammer and adjustable wrench.
• Use the pedestal and off-hand grinding machines.
• Ensure that all defects identified during specific route/machine inspections are documented on the checklist feedback with immediate action plan to mitigate significant risks for closure.
• Maintain an in-depth knowledge of the condition of oxy-acetylene equipment on a continuous basis and take responsibility for failures resulting from inadequate equipment-specific inspection.
• Ensure the Job Plan / Checklist on the WO is diligently followed as per the work-order tasks.
• Contribute to the RCA process in your section possessing a positive mindset and elimination of failure.
• Execute work for stop day, shut-down and off-crop maintenance activities on the plant equipment and carry out the maintenance timeously without delay to production.
• Identify personal learning and development needs and coach and mentor other maintenance workers.
• Identify and monitor KPIs to track performance and flag any issues.
• Promote and adhere to ABF’s procedures, policies and guidelines, including those relating to SHERQ, Competition Law and Anti-Bribery and Corruption (ABC).

Qualifications and Experience

• Grade 12 Certificate.
• Craft Certificate in Metal Fabrication/Welding.
• Member of Engineering Institute of Zambia.
• At least 2 years post experience in a robust plant environment.
• At least 2 years in the sugar industry will be an added advantage.
