Background

Zambia Sugar Plc is an ABF Group sugar company and is the leading sugar producer in Zambia. Its main activities are the growing of sugar cane, the production and marketing of sugar and other sugar downstream products.

Zambia Sugar carries out Off-Crop maintenance works in the Factory for a duration of up to four (4) months and invites applications from suitably qualified and experienced persons to fill Off-Crop positions in the Manufacturing Department.

Overall Responsibility

These positions report to various Lead Artisans. The successful candidates will be responsible for repairing and maintaining conveyors, gearboxes, pumps, piping, valves, timing couplings and pulleys etc.

Key Performance Areas

  • Read and interpret engineering drawings of plant equipment.
  • Carry out overhaul of equipment as and when required by Supervisor’s instruction e.g. gearboxes, conveyors, crystallisers, etc.
  • Ensure the lubrication of all equipment in the area is performed to standard and as per PM WO plan.
  • Repack glands on various valves, pumps and crystallisers etc.
  • Fabricate various simple steel components using oxy/acetylene equipment and welding machine.
  • Inspect and replace defective vee belts on all drives.
  • Ensure the Job Plan / Checklist on the WO is diligently followed as per the work-order tasks.
  • Conduct and contribute to the RCA process in your section possessing a positive mindset and elimination of failure.
  • Execute work for stop day, shut-down and off-crop maintenance activities on plant equipment and carry out the maintenance timeously without delay to production.
  • Work with Optimization and Process teams to solve problems and promote cross-functional engagement and teamwork.
  • Provide input into best practices, frameworks and minimum standards within function through Head Office platform and provide additional opportunities for problem identification and knowledge sharing.
  • Identify and monitor KPIs to track performance and flag any issues.
  • Promote and adhere to ABF’s procedures, policies and guidelines, including those relating to SHERQ, Competition Law and Anti-Bribery and Corruption (ABC).

Qualifications and Experience

  • Grade 12 Certificate.
  • Craft Certificate in Mechanical Fitting.
  • Member of Engineering Institution of Zambia.
  • At least 2 years post experience in a robust plant environment.
  • At least 2 years in the sugar industry will be an added advantage.
