Background

Zambia Sugar Plc is an ABF Group sugar company and is the leading sugar producer in Zambia. Its main activities are the growing of sugar cane, the production and marketing of sugar and other sugar downstream products.

Zambia Sugar carries out Off-Crop maintenance works in the Factory for a duration of up to four (4) months and invites applications from suitably qualified and experienced persons to fill Off-Crop positions in the Manufacturing Department.

Overall Responsibility

These positions report to the Lead Artisans – Construction Fabrication. The successful candidates will be responsible for using welding machines proficiently in all joining (welding) positions.

Key Performance Areas

  • Read basic technical drawings for structural works’ preparation and assembly.
  • Welding, repair and install maintenance structures such as chutes, tanks, carriers, conveyors, pipes etc. by use of various welding processes.
  • Use welding machine for building up shredder hammers and hard facing.
  • Use basic machine tools and hand tools.
  • Carry out all welding activities under the Construction section.
  • Ensure plant and equipment cleanliness is in line with the “5S” standard and ensure that for any completed job, the work area and equipment is cleaned and all safety requirements put in place.
  • Ensure that all defects identified during specific route/machine inspections are documented on the checklist feedback and immediately plan to mitigate significant risks for closure.
  • Maintain an in-depth knowledge of the condition of all welding equipment on a continuous basis and take responsibility for failures resulting from inadequate equipment-specific inspection.
  • Ensure the Job Plan / Checklist on the WO is diligently followed as per the work-order tasks.
  • Contribute to the RCA process in your section possessing a positive mindset and elimination of failure.
  • Monitor own section’s KPIs, understand your contribution to them, contribute to solutions to resolve out-of-spec KPIs and maintain actions to sustain KPIs being within specification.
  • Execute work for stop day, shut-down and off-crop maintenance activities on plant equipment and carry out the maintenance timeously without delay to production.
  • Identify personal learning and development needs and coach and mentor other maintenance workers.
  • Promote and adhere to ABF’s procedures, policies and guidelines, including those relating to SHERQ, Competition Law and Anti-Bribery and Corruption (ABC).

Qualifications and Experience

  • Grade 12 Certificate.
  • Minimum of Trade Test Level 1 with 6G classification.
  • Craft Certificate in Metal Fabrication/Welding.
  • Must have certification in MIG & TIG welding.
  • Member of Engineering Institute of Zambia.
  • At least 2 years post experience in a robust plant environment.
  • At least 2 years in the sugar industry will be an added advantage.
