ABOUT ZAMBIA SUGAR PLC

Zambia Sugar Plc. is an ABF Group sugar company and is the leading sugar producer in Zambia. Its main activities are the growing of sugar cane, the production and marketing of sugar and other sugar downstream products.

The company invites applications from suitably qualified and experienced persons to fill this position under the Manufacturing Department.

OVERALL RESPONSIBILITY

This position reports to the Process Engineer – Raw House. The successful incumbent will be responsible for driving enforcement of SHERQ and Food Safety Standards in the Raw House.

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS

  • Identify and implement SHERQ & Food Safety related opportunities in the Section and drive a Zero Harm culture through behavioral change.
  • Identify and implement Boiling House Recovery improvements, providing a hands-on approach to implementation of improvement initiatives.
  • Work through the Focused Improvement Team and work as an Operations Lead in implementing FIT Platform outcomes.
  • Attend to escalations highlighted by the Shift Team to ensure continuity of focus on identified bottlenecks.
  • Review SOPs and work with L&D to train Operators.
  • Review KPI Boards, Work Instructions, Log sheets and Dashboards to ensure compliance to standards.
  • Conduct MOPs Audits in the Backend and generate gap list for closure.
  • Review performance trends in the Backend and identify focus areas and PIPs.
  • Implement Prototypes and new initiatives and on-board Operatives on new standards.
  • Identify L&D needs within the team and manage training through business partnership.
  • Inspect critical equipment and ensure adherence to minimum standards.
  • Ensure adequate stocking of critical consumables and escalate any potential stock-outs to Stores and Line Manager.
  • Conduct HACCP & HIRA reviews.
  • Coordinate scheduled operational maintenance activities.
  • Implement Best Practices shared from Group (1C).
  • Ensure closure of external and internal audit findings.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Full Grade 12 Certificate.
  • Preferably Diploma in Chemical Engineering, Chemical Technology or Equivalent.
  • Preferably 5+ years’ experience in Sugar Industry Backend Operations.
  • Preferably 2+ years’ supervisory experience.
  • Training in Sugar Technology with Pan Boiling Experience will be an added advantage.
  • Suitably qualified applicants must provide certificates which have been verified by the Zambia Qualifications Authority (ZAQA).
