We are looking for a skilled, hardworking, and reliable Painter / Skimmer to join our maintenance team. The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing surfaces, skimming walls and ceilings, painting buildings and facilities, and ensuring that all finishing work is completed to a high professional standard.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare walls, ceilings, doors, windows, and other surfaces for painting.
- Carry out wall and ceiling skimming to achieve smooth and even finishes.
- Apply primer, undercoat, and finishing coats as required.
- Mix and match paints and colours according to specifications.
- Repair cracks, holes, peeling paint, and other surface defects before painting.
- Carry out internal and external painting works.
- Ensure clean, neat, and professional finishes.
- Protect furniture, floors, fittings, and other surfaces during painting activities.
- Use painting tools and equipment safely and correctly.
- Clean and maintain painting tools and equipment after use.
- Identify maintenance issues requiring attention and report them to the supervisor.
- Follow health, safety, and environmental procedures at all times.
- Maintain cleanliness and order in the work area.
- Perform other maintenance duties as assigned by management.
Qualifications and Experience
- Grade 12 Certificate or equivalent.
- Certificate or trade qualification in Painting, Construction, Building Maintenance, or a related field is an added advantage.
- Minimum of 2 years’ practical experience as a painter/skimmer.
- Demonstrable experience in wall and ceiling skimming and finishing.
- Knowledge of different types of paints, primers, fillers, and surface preparation materials.
- Ability to use painting and finishing tools effectively.
- Good attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Physically fit and able to work at heights where required.
- Reliable, disciplined, and willing to work flexible hours when necessary.
