About Talent House Ltd:

We are a leading recruitment and HR consulting firm that operates as a link between people and companies in achieving a shared purpose. We offer creative, effective and flexible solutions that not only help individuals discover their career paths but provide organizations with talent they can recruit, develop and retain.

About the role:

Our client is seeking a detail-oriented Quantity Surveyor to manage the commercial and financial performance of their heavy industrial, construction, and mining projects. You will act as a financial gatekeeper—handling cost estimates, contracts, and monthly valuations. You will also heavily utilize your commercial background to draft, negotiate, and administer critical contractual correspondence (e.g., early warning notices, variation claims, and legal notices) to mitigate risk and protect the company's financial interests.

Key Responsibilities:

Commercial Management & Correspondence

  • Draft Commercial Letters: Prepare, review, and issue formal contractual correspondence, including Early Warning Notices, delay notifications, notices of claims, and variation agreements.
  • Contract Administration: Interpret and administer standard contracts (e.g., NEC, FIDIC, JBCC) to ensure all parties comply with contractual obligations.
  • Dispute Resolution: Assist in the compilation and evaluation of contractual claims, extensions of time (EOT), and dispute documentation.

Cost Estimation & Tendering

  • Tender Preparation: Prepare Bills of Quantities (BOQ), tender documents, and detailed cost estimates for earthworks, civils, and mining infrastructure.
  • Bid Evaluation: Analyze and evaluate subcontractor and supplier bids, ensuring fair pricing and scope alignment.

Cost Control & Financial Reporting

  • Budget Forecasting: Prepare and maintain accurate project budgets, cash flow projections, and financial status reports for senior management.
  • Valuations: Measure and evaluate completed work on-site, process interim payment certificates, and prepare invoices for clients.
  • Variation Management: Price, negotiate, and agree on change orders, addendums, and site instructions with engineering teams and clients.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or Civil Engineering.
  • Experience: 5+ years of demonstrable experience in a Quantity Surveying role, with a strong focus on the mining or heavy construction sectors.
  • Commercial Acumen: Exceptional written and verbal communication skills; proven track record of drafting professional, legally sound commercial letters and claims.
  • Software: Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (advanced Excel) and industry-standard measurement software (e.g., CostX, QS Plus, or Candy).
  • Regulations: Strong working knowledge of Health & Safety Acts and standard industry contract formats.

Compensation:

The incumbent will receive a competitive salary commensurate with experience.
