Role purpose
The Accountant will oversee key accounting and finance activities, ensuring accurate financial records, timely reporting, effective cash-flow and working-capital management, and compliance with company policies and relevant accounting and statutory requirements. The role will also support finance process improvements and make effective use of the company’s ERP system.
Key responsibilities
Management reporting: Prepare and review monthly management accounts, budgets, forecasts, variance analyses, and supporting commentary for management.
Payroll: Coordinate and review payroll processing, reconciliations, statutory deductions, submissions, and related reporting, while maintaining confidentiality and accuracy.
Reconciliations and month-end close: Prepare and review bank, balance-sheet, intercompany, payroll, and general-ledger reconciliations. Ensure discrepancies are investigated and resolved promptly.
Asset management: Maintain the fixed-asset register; oversee additions, disposals, transfers, depreciation, and physical verification; and ensure assets are recorded accurately.
Receivables and debtor management: Oversee customer invoicing, collections, ageing analysis, credit control, and resolution of account queries. Monitor overdue balances and escalate risks.
ERP and financial systems: Use the ERP system to process and review transactions, maintain accurate master data, generate reports, and support system improvements. Provide guidance to colleagues on finance-system processes.
Compliance and controls: Support internal and external audits, maintain appropriate financial controls, and ensure compliance with accounting standards, tax requirements, and company policies.
Process improvement: Identify opportunities to improve reporting, reconciliations, payroll, debtor management, and other finance processes.
Stakeholder support: Work collaboratively with operational teams, managers, auditors, customers, and suppliers to provide accurate and timely financial information.
Qualifications and experience
Education: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualification in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.
Professional Qualification: Professional accounting qualification or progress toward one is an advantage.
Experience: 3 years of progressive accounting experience, including management reporting, payroll, reconciliations, fixed assets, and capital management.
ERP System: Experience using an ERP system; familiarity with the ERP platform used by Thebe Investment Group is an advantage.
Knowledge: Working knowledge of accounting principles, financial controls, and applicable statutory requirements.
Skills and competencies
Analytical: Strong analytical, numerical, and problem-solving skills.
Microsoft Office: Microsoft Excel skills, proficiency in Microsoft Word and Outlook.
Communication: Clear written and verbal communication skills.
