Zambia Sugar Plc. is an ABF Sugar Company, the leading Sugar producer in Zambia. Its main activities are the growing of sugar cane, the production and marketing of sugar and other sugar downstream products.

The company invites applications from suitably qualified and experienced individuals to fill the following position in the Business Improvement Department, based at Nakambala.

Responsibilities or duties

The Senior Project Manager is responsible for leading the delivery of major capital projects from concept through to commissioning. The role ensures that projects are delivered safely, on time, within budget, and to specification, while maintaining alignment with the business strategy, governance standards, and financial approval frameworks.

Key Responsibilities

  • Strategy, Governance & Business Case Ownership
    • Ensure the strategic intent of major capital projects is maintained throughout the project lifecycle, with all trade-offs and changes formally documented.
    • Own approved project business cases and ensure continued financial integrity and alignment with the business strategic plan.
    • Prepare and submit capital approval applications and supporting documentation in line with the annual capital cycle.
    • Ensure full compliance with corporate project governance frameworks and PMO standards.
  • Planning, Execution & Control
    • Define project scope, objectives, deliverables, schedules, and success criteria.
    • Ability to lead other project managers when required.
    • Develop, maintain, and control detailed project plans, milestones, and budgets for major capex projects.
    • Monitor progress, manage interdependencies, and resolve delivery constraints in collaboration with project teams.
    • Control project cashflow and lead scope change management where required.
  • Commercial, Contract & Stakeholder Management
    • Lead contract development, execution, and performance management to agreed SLAs and Zambia Sugar standards.
    • Ensure procurement processes are followed, and engineering principles are appropriately applied.
    • Manage external contractors, consultants, and service providers supporting project delivery.
    • Provide regular, clear communication to stakeholders on project progress, risks, and outcomes.
  • Risk, Quality, Safety & Compliance
    • Identify, assess, and manage project risks to minimise cost, schedule, safety, and quality impacts.
    • Implement appropriate quality management systems to ensure project outputs meet stakeholder requirements.
    • Provide visible health and safety (H&S) leadership and be accountable for all aspects of H&S on assigned projects.
    • Ensure projects are delivered in compliance with regulatory, engineering, and corporate standards.

Qualifications or requirements (e.g., education, skills)

Minimum Requirements

  • Full Grade 12 Certificate.
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering (Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, or related discipline).
  • Professional certification in Project Management (PMP or equivalent).
  • Demonstrated PMO experience with strong working knowledge of project management methodologies, tools, and governance frameworks.
  • Suitably qualified applicants must provide certificates verified by the Zambia Qualifications Authority (ZAQA), where applicable.

Experience needed

  • Demonstrated experience managing projects end to end in excess of 50 million Kwacha each.
  • Preferably 10 years’ experience in manufacturing or industrial project management, including delivery of medium to large capital projects.
