Background information about the job or company (e.g., role context, company overview)
This role is responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing metering equipment and test instruments in order to ensure correct operation on all metering infrastructure. The role will report to the Supervisor- Metering.
Responsibilities or duties
- Carry out calibration of energy meters to ensure meters operate within the required accuracies.
- Undertake repairs and calibration of high voltage and low voltage test instruments to ensure availability for the effective maintenance of primary equipment.
- Carry out installations and assist in commissioning of metering schemes for the purposes of maintaining and upgrading existing systems in the effort of generating revenue, meeting new load and regulatory requirements.
- Carry out condition-based maintenance of energy meters, alarm schemes, summation equipment, and voltage selection equipment to ensure correct operations at all times.
- Carry out metering activities most efficiently and effectively to ensure that the same are performed right the first time.
- Undertake other jobs that may be added from time to time in compliance with the company’s programs of multi-skilling.
- Undertake and complete given assignments within the allocated time frame to avoid unnecessary overtime.
- Undertake preventive measures for unsafe practices, and conduct toolbox talks before every activity is undertaken.
- Ensure good housekeeping in all work activities and participate in SHE meetings.
- Participate and attend to defects for the prepayment metering platforms and offer assistance for customers having difficulties with recharge activities.
- Ensure that all company resources in the workshop are used solely for company purposes and that there is no misuse of assets such as vehicles, tools, and other materials.
- Carry out repairs to load control circuits for the CEC system control office and customers for a healthy state of circuits at all times for effective load management and peak looping activities.
- Ensure that the Measurands to Control Office are accurate at all times for timely decision-making in the control room.
Qualifications or requirements (e.g., education, skills)
- Grade 12 Full Certificate.
- Technician Certificate in Electrical, Electronics or Instrumentation.
- Member of the Engineering Institute of Zambia.
Experience needed
- Minimum 3 years’ post-qualification experience gained in an environment of similar context and complexity.
- Carry out calibration of energy meters to ensure meters operate within the required accuracies.
