BCP is seeking a strategic leader to oversee Validation, Verification, and Monitoring (MRV and MEL) across our expanding portfolio. This *senior role* is pivotal in ensuring that our projects maintain the highest standards of climate integrity, while also driving innovation in monitoring systems and reinforcing our reputation as a global leader in REDD+.
The successful candidate will ideally be based in Zambia, but we will consider a remote-based agreement (with travel) for the right person.
Responsibilities:
Carbon Standards & Verification: Lead validation and verification under VCS and CCB standards; oversee monitoring reports, audits, and registry interactions; serve as primary liaison with certification bodies.
Monitoring & Innovation: Supervise GIS and remote sensing teams; develop new monitoring tools; integrate advanced satellite, digital, and cloud-based technologies to strengthen real-time forest protection.
Reporting & Strategy: Provide regular updates to senior management and the Board; prepare annual work plans; serve as a strategic partner to field teams, ensuring alignment between data and impact.
Leadership & Team Growth: Mentor and expand a high-performing carbon and monitoring team; foster professional development; build BCP’s next generation of technical leaders.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Advanced degree (Master’s or PhD) with at least 5 years’ professional experience in carbon markets, climate science, forestry, or related fields.
- Proven track record in carbon standards (VCS, CCB, UNFCCC/IPCC guidelines) and REDD+ methodologies.
- Strong technical capacity in GIS, remote sensing, and data analysis, with fluency in tools such as Google Earth Engine, R, QGIS, and mobile data collection platforms.
- Excellent strategic thinking, leadership, and project management skills.
- Exceptional communication skills, including advanced scientific report writing.
