Gramus is seeking an experienced, dependable and detail-oriented Head Accountant to manage its accounting function and strengthen financial controls across the business.
The successful candidate will oversee financial reporting, budgeting, taxation, cash-flow management, inventory accounting and regulatory compliance. The Head Accountant will also supervise accounting employees and provide management with accurate financial information for decision-making.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee the company’s daily accounting and financial operations.
- Prepare accurate monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements.
- Manage the general ledger and month-end and year-end closing processes.
- Review bank, cash, inventory, supplier and customer reconciliations.
- Develop annual budgets and monitor actual results against approved budgets.
- Prepare cash-flow forecasts and monitor the company’s working-capital position.
- Analyse revenue, costs, profit margins and operational performance.
- Maintain effective controls over cash, inventory, expenses and company assets.
- Review payroll calculations and ensure accurate recording of payroll expenses.
- Ensure compliance with ZRA requirements and applicable Zambian tax legislation.
- Coordinate statutory audits and provide the required supporting documentation.
- Maintain the fixed-asset register and review depreciation calculations.
- Supervise, train and evaluate members of the accounting team.
- Investigate financial discrepancies and recommend corrective action.
- Present financial reports and recommendations to senior management.
- Develop and implement accounting policies and internal-control procedures.
- Ensure financial records are complete, accurate and securely maintained.
Qualifications and Experience Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field.
- Full or partial professional qualification in ACCA, CIMA or ZICA preferred.
- Five years of relevant accounting experience, including experience in a supervisory or senior accounting position is preferred
- Strong knowledge of financial reporting, budgeting, taxation and internal controls.
- Good understanding of Zambian tax and statutory reporting requirements.
- Experience with inventory accounting and cost control will be an added advantage.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and recognised accounting software.
- Strong analytical and financial problem-solving abilities.
- Excellent leadership, communication and staff-management skills.
- High levels of integrity, confidentiality and attention to detail.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet strict reporting deadlines.
