Oxfam is looking for Business Development Coordinator – Private Sector & Institutional Partnerships

Responsibilities or duties

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Private Sector and Institutional Engagement Strategy & Strategic Positioning (15%)

The role supports the development and implementation of a coherent regional business development strategy that strengthens Oxfam’s engagement with both private sector and institutional funding actors.

  • Support the definition of strategic priorities for private sector, corporate, institutional donor, and innovative financing engagement.
  • Ensure all funding and partnership approaches are aligned with SAF strategic priorities, thematic goals, and organisational values.
  • Provide strategic analysis on partnership opportunities, market trends, donor shifts, and funding risks

Pipeline Development, Opportunity Identification & Portfolio Management (20%)

A central function of the role is the proactive development and management of a robust regional pipeline of strategic opportunities.

  • Identify, track, and assess private sector, institutional donor, philanthropic, and innovative financing opportunities across the region.
  • Develop and maintain structured systems for pipeline visibility, opportunity prioritisation, and strategic decision-making.
  • Ensure alignment between identified opportunities, organisational capacity, thematic priorities, and partnership readiness.

Partnership Design, Proposal Development & Resource Mobilisation (15%)

The role supports the design of strategic partnerships and funding proposals that are innovative, values-aligned, and outcomes-focused.

  • Facilitate the development of partnership concepts, proposals, donor submissions, and engagement strategies.
  • Support the structuring of private sector, institutional, blended finance, and social enterprise models.
  • Ensure all partnership and funding designs comply with Oxfam’s Standards

Leadership of Business Development Function and Focal Point Coordination (15%)

The role provides functional leadership across business development systems, particularly around private sector and institutional engagement.

  • Coordinate and strengthen focal points across countries and thematic teams.
  • Build internal capability in donor diversification, partnership development, and strategic business development.
  • Promote collaboration, accountability, and shared learning across dispersed teams.

Internal Coordination, Programme Integration & Cross-Functional Alignment (15%)

The role ensures strong coordination across Oxfam systems to maximise strategic opportunities.

  • Connect country teams, programme managers, technical leads, affiliates, and support functions around funding opportunities.
  • Reduce fragmentation and improve communication across business development efforts.
  • Strengthen alignment between programme design, influencing priorities, and donor engagement.

Relationship Management, External Engagement & Strategic Representation (10%)

The role supports Oxfam’s strategic external relationships with private sector, institutional, and funding stakeholders.

  • Build and maintain strategic relationships with:
  • Private sector actors
  • Institutional donors

Qualifications or requirements (e.g., education, skills)

Essential

  • Master’s degree in Business Administration, Economics, Development Studies, International Relation or related field.
  • 5 years of relevant experience in business development, partnerships, institutional fundraising and private sector engagement, including at least 2–3 years in a team leadership or coordination role
  • Proven experience in private sector engagement, relationship management, and coordinating across multiple stakeholders.
  • Strong relationship management, communication, and strategic thinking skills.
  • Proven experience working with national or regional partners supporting programme implementation including working across multi-country or multi-stakeholder environment
  • Ability to build strong, credible relationships with internal and external individuals and organisations
  • Excellent personal communication skills, in written and verbal English, with strong influencing and persuasive skills
  • A high level of self-awareness, personal energy, stamina and flexibility.
  • Proven experience as a team worker and demonstrably cooperative with members of other teams
  • Commitment to Oxfam’s safeguarding policies to ensure all people who come into contact with Oxfam are as safe as possible.

  • Commitment to Oxfam’s overall aims and policies and experience of promoting gender equity and diversity and the interests of marginalized people in all aspects of Oxfam’s work
  • Ability and willingness to travel regularly, at times at short notice, locally and regionally.
