Responsibilities or duties

The successful candidate will oversee all aspects of poultry farm management, ensuring smooth daily operations and achievement of production targets. Responsibilities include:

• Poultry Production: Plan and supervise daily activities for broiler, layer, or breeder flocks; monitor growth, egg production, mortality rates, and feed conversion efficiency; ensure optimal feeding, watering, ventilation, and housing conditions.
• Animal Health and Biosecurity: Implement stringent biosecurity measures; monitor flock health; collaborate with veterinarians on vaccination and disease control; maintain detailed health and medication records.
• Feed and Inventory Management: Oversee feed consumption and quality; manage stocks of feed, vaccines, medicines, and other supplies; minimize waste and control costs while maintaining accurate inventory records.
• Staff Supervision: Train, motivate, and allocate tasks to farm employees; enforce safety, hygiene, and biosecurity protocols; handle disciplinary and performance management.
• Records and Reporting: Maintain comprehensive production records; prepare reports on flock performance, feed usage, and health; analyze data to recommend improvements.
• Farm Operations and Maintenance: Ensure maintenance of poultry houses, equipment, and utilities; coordinate repairs; promote safe working practices; manage waste disposal in compliance with regulations.
• Financial and Performance Management: Develop and monitor production budgets; control costs; track key performance indicators; identify opportunities to enhance profitability and reduce losses.

Qualifications or requirements (e.g., education, skills)

Candidates should possess the following qualifications and experience:

• A Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Animal Science, Agriculture, Poultry Science, Veterinary Studies, or a related field.
• Proven leadership experience managing poultry farm staff.
• Strong knowledge of poultry nutrition, flock management, vaccination protocols, and biosecurity standards.
• Competence in preparing production budgets and cost management reports.
• Familiarity with Zambian agricultural regulations and animal health requirements.

Experience needed

Between 3 to 5 years of hands-on experience in commercial poultry production.

Experience in managing both broiler and layer operations.
