Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement and monitor occupational health and safety policies and procedures.
  • Conduct workplace inspections, risk assessments and safety audits.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable mining, occupational health and safety legislation.
  • Investigate accidents, incidents and near misses and recommend corrective actions.
  • Conduct safety inductions, toolbox talks and employee awareness programmes.
  • Maintain accurate safety records and prepare periodic reports for management.
  • Coordinate emergency preparedness and response activities.
  • Monitor the correct issuance and use of personal protective equipment.
  • Promote a strong safety culture across all departments.
  • Liaise with regulatory authorities and other relevant stakeholders.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree or diploma in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Health, Mining Safety or a related field.
  • At least three years’ experience in a similar position, preferably within the mining, manufacturing, construction or heavy industrial sector.
  • Sound knowledge of Zambian occupational health, safety and mining legislation.
  • Experience in accident investigation, risk assessment and safety management systems.
  • Strong leadership, communication, analytical and report-writing skills.
  • Relevant professional safety certification will be an added advantage.
  • Must be computer literate.
