JOB DESCRIPTION:
Position: CIVIL ENGINEER INTERN ( 2)
Department: Engineering / Construction
Reports To: Site Manager
Location: Emerald Hill, District Road
Employment Type: Internship
Job Purpose
The Civil Engineer Intern will support the engineering and project team in planning, designing, supervising, and monitoring civil engineering projects. The intern will gain practical experience in construction activities, site supervision, technical drawings, measurements, project documentation, and compliance with engineering standards and safety requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist civil engineers with the planning, design, and implementation of civil engineering projects.
- Assist with site inspections and monitor construction activities to ensure work is carried out according to approved designs and specifications.
- Assist in taking site measurements, quantities, and preparing material estimates.
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, plans, and technical specifications.
- Assist with preparing technical reports, site reports, progress reports, and project documentation.
- Support the preparation and review of Bills of Quantities (BOQs), schedules, and cost estimates.
- Assist in monitoring the quality of construction materials and workmanship.
- Participate in surveying, levelling, and setting-out activities as required.
- Assist with collecting and analysing technical and site data.
- Work with contractors and subcontractors under the supervision of senior engineers.
- Ensure that construction activities comply with relevant engineering standards, specifications, and safety requirements.
- Assist in monitoring project progress and identifying potential delays or technical issues.
- Maintain accurate records of site activities, measurements, materials, and project information.
- Attend project meetings and assist with recording technical discussions and action points.
- Perform other engineering-related duties assigned by the supervisor.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering from a recognised institution.
- Basic knowledge of civil engineering principles, construction methods, and materials.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
- Basic knowledge of AutoCAD and other engineering/design software is an advantage.
- Basic computer skills, particularly Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Good mathematical and analytical skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Willingness to learn and work in a construction/site environment.
- Ability to follow instructions and work under the supervision of experienced engineers.
