As the Value Chain Expert for Electronics and E-Waste, you will provide technical expertise and strategic support to programme partners and regional team members, including colleagues from GIZ and Expertise France. This includes team members in Zambia, but also (part-time) staff based in selected other countries in the region like e.g. Kenya, Tanzania, Ethiopia or South Africa.

You will provide strategic advice on business models and technical solutions aimed at preventing e-waste and promoting its reuse and recycling. In addition, you will support the development and implementation of policies and training measures tailored to the specific needs and dynamics of the electronics and e-waste value chain.

Main tasks and responsibilities

  • Review consultant deliverables and offer technical inputs
  • Provide guidance on relevant stakeholders in the electronics/ e-waste value chain in selected COMESA member countries and South Africa
  • Support COMESA staff on value-chain specific aspects in planning and conducting stakeholder dialogues and conferences
  • Provide inputs to the elaboration and implementation of calls for selecting companies to receive matching grants
  • Provide technical input to produce knowledge products and communication materials related to the e-waste value chain
  • Offer technical support to business development service providers and matching grant operators involved in financial and technical assistance to SMEs
  • Collaborate with an international part-time value chain expert based in Germany to integrate global best practices and international experience into programme implementation

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in any relevant field such as Economics, Environmental Science Environmental Engineering, Waste Management and Recycling Technologies or equivalent.
  • A Master’s degree in any relevant field such as Economics, Environmental Science Environmental Engineering, Waste Management and Recycling Technologies or equivalent is an added advantage
  • All academic certificates must be verified by Zambia Qualifications Authority (ZAQA)

Professional experience

  • At least 5 years of professional experience in the green or circular economy, or within the electronics/e-waste value chain.
  • In-depth understanding of the market, actors, and regulatory landscape within the electronics, e-waste, or recycling sectors.
  • Prior experience in developmental cooperation is considered an asset.
    Other knowledge and additional competences
  • Regional working experience in East and/or Southern Africa is desirable

  • Proven ability to work in an intercultural environment
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English
