Job Purpose
The GPS Technician is responsible for the installation, configuration, testing, maintenance, and troubleshooting of GPS fleet management systems and related telematics equipment. The role includes the installation and calibration of BLE fuel sensors, installation of driver identification (Driver Tag) systems, and ensuring all installed equipment operates accurately and reliably.
Key Responsibilities
GPS Installation and Configuration
- Install GPS tracking devices on various vehicle types, including passenger vehicles, trucks, buses, and heavy equipment.
- Configure GPS trackers according to company and client specifications.
- Perform functional testing to verify proper operation after installation.
- Troubleshoot and repair faulty GPS installations.
Driver Tag Installation
- Install Driver Tag (Driver Identification) readers and associated hardware.
- Register and assign driver tags to authorized drivers.
- Test driver identification systems to ensure accurate driver recognition and reporting.
- Train clients on the proper use of driver tags.
BLE Fuel Sensor Installation and Calibration
- Install Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) fuel level sensors on vehicle fuel tanks.
- Perform fuel tank calibration using approved calibration procedures.
- Configure BLE sensors within the fleet management platform.
- Verify fuel readings against actual fuel levels to ensure accuracy.
- Diagnose and resolve fuel sensor communication or calibration issues.
Qualifications
- Diploma or Certificate in Electronics, Electrical Engineering, Information Technology, Telecommunications, Automotive Engineering, or a related technical field.
- Additional certification in GPS Fleet Management Systems is an added advantage.
Experience
- Minimum of 2 years' experience installing GPS tracking systems.
- Experience installing and calibrating BLE fuel sensors.
- Experience installing Driver Tag identification systems.
- Experience working with commercial fleets is an added advantage.
Technical Skills
- GPS tracker installation and configuration.
- BLE fuel sensor installation and calibration.
- Driver Tag installation and programming.
- Vehicle electrical systems.
- Wiring, soldering, and cable management.
- Diagnostic and troubleshooting techniques.
- Fleet management software operation.
