Job Purpose:
The Lead Electrician is responsible for all electrical works including the Generation Unit, PV Array, and Home Wiring (including service lines, meters, and interior wiring). The role requires focus on code compliant wiring practice and safe installation and commissioning according to provided standards. When necessary, the Lead Electrician may also participate in Distribution Network activities including pegging, excavation, pole erection, dressing, stringing, anchoring, and commissioning.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage Generation Unit (GU) installation and commissioning.
- Lead the installation of service lines, meters, home wiring, and associated components.
- Prepare drawings, specifications, and Bills of Quantity for any required electrical works.
- Oversee installation of PV arrays (structure, modules, inverters, and home run wiring).
- When necessary, conduct pegging and hole excavation for the Distribution Network.
- Liaise with contractors and monitor labor activities to ensure adherence to specifications.
- Verify material quantities and quality including cabling, connectors, electrical panels, breakers and disconnects, grounding and earthing, and other Balance of System.
- Address defects and enforce corrective actions where necessary.
- Develop work plans, schedules, and resource requirements for electrical activities.
- Enforce adherence to safety procedures and PPE usage on-site.
- Participate in site risk assessments and safety briefings.
- Identify and report hazards or unsafe practices.
- Coordinate with civil teams to align civil and electrical timelines.
- Perform electrical testing and commissioning on GU, DN, and home wiring.
- Prepare weekly reports, prefinal inspection reports, and final reports.
- Report delays, risks, and technical challenges to management.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Diploma or Certificate in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
- Valid certification relevant to education
- Minimum three years of electrical installation experience.
- Proven experience in supervising construction teams and contractors.
- Experience in solar minigrids or rural electrification is an added advantage.
- Experience with Geographical Information Systems (Google Earth and QGIS) is an added advantage.
Languages:
- Excellent oral and written English required.
- Proficiency in at least one local Zambian language; language from NW Province is an added advantage.
