JOB SUMMARY
Trefin Capital is seeking a motivated, results-oriented and customer-focused Loan Officer to join our Chainda Branch.
The role combines office and field responsibilities, including loan processing, customer acquisition, marketing, portfolio management, collections and customer service. The successful candidate will regularly engage with vendors, traders, small business owners and individual customers who are in employment.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Market and promote Trefin Capital's loan products, identify new customers and undertake business development activities.
- Build and maintain relationships with customers, vendors, traders and small business owners.
- Assist customers with loan applications, documentation and general enquiries, and explain loan terms and repayment obligations.
- Conduct preliminary customer and business assessments, verify relevant information and assess repayment capacity.
- Assess the suitability, condition and estimated value of collateral offered by customers, in accordance with Trefin Capital's lending procedures, and ensure proper documentation.
- Process and maintain accurate loan and customer records.
- Monitor loan repayments and follow up on overdue accounts through calls and field visits.
- Support collections and debt recovery activities.
- Conduct field marketing, customer visits and business engagements within the branch's catchment area.
- Prepare daily, weekly and monthly reports as required.
- Use Microsoft Excel to maintain, analyse and report on customer, loan and portfolio information.
- Adhere to Trefin Capital's lending policies, KYC requirements, procedures and confidentiality standards.
- Identify and report potential credit risks, fraud or other irregularities.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
- Grade 12 Certificate is required.
- Certificate or Diploma in Banking and Finance, Business Administration, Marketing, Accounting, Economics or a related field is an added advantage.
- Experience in microfinance, lending, sales, marketing, collections or customer service is an advantage.
- Experience working with small businesses, vendors or traders is an added advantage.
- Experience in collateral assessment or valuation will be an added advantage.
- Recent graduates/school leavers with the right attitude, discipline and willingness to learn are encouraged to apply.

- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and general computer applications.
- Strong communication, interpersonal and customer service skills.
- Good sales, marketing and negotiation abilities.
- Confidence in approaching and engaging customers and businesses.
- Ability to assess collateral suitability, condition and estimated value.
- Good numerical, analytical, organisational and record-keeping skills.
- Ability to work effectively both in the office and in the field.
- Ability to communicate effectively in English and relevant local languages.
- Ability to build and maintain relationships with customers, vendors and small business owners.
- Target-driven, proactive and self-motivated.
- High level of integrity, discipline and professionalism.
WORKING CONDITIONS
The position is based at the Trefin Capital Chainda Branch and involves both branch-based and field activities.
Field duties may include marketing, customer acquisition, business visits, customer assessments, collateral assessments and collections within Chainda and surrounding areas.
The successful candidate must be comfortable working with customers and businesses, undertaking field activities and meeting performance targets.
The position is offered on a one-year contract, renewable based on performance.
Candidates residing in Chainda, Avondale or nearby areas may be given preference.
