JOB DETAILS:

The Scaffolding Supervisor leads a team of scaffolders to ensure safe, compliant erection and inspection of access scaffolding systems in a high-risk mining environment. This role combines technical expertise with leadership to maintain structural integrity for work-at-height activities while optimizing equipment availability.

Key Responsibilities

1. Scaffolding Operations Management

• Supervise erection/dismantling of tube-and-coupler/system scaffolding
• Conduct pre-use inspections (SWL tags, corrosion checks, base stability)
• Certify scaffolding with color-coded tags (green/yellow/red system)
• Perform 7-day compliance inspections per OSHA/Mines Safety regulations

2. Team Leadership & Safety

• Lead daily toolbox talks with scaffold crews
• Enforce fall protection and dropped object prevention measures
• Verify 100% harness use and toeboards/safety nets installation

3. Equipment & Inventory Control

• Maintain scaffold material tracking system (RFID tagging preferred)
• Reject/Quarantine defective components (bent tubes, cracked couplers)
• Organize laydown yard for efficient material retrieval

4. Technical Support

• Develop scaffold design sketches for complex structures
• Advise on alternative access solutions (MEWPs, bosun chairs)
• Support rigging operations for scaffold material lifts

Required Competencies

Technical Skills

• Mastery of OSHA 1926.452 & EN 12811-1 standards
• Proficiency in Cuplok/Quickstage systems
• Ability to calculate SWL for cantilevered scaffolds

Leadership Traits

• Decisive when stopping unsafe work
• Mentoring approach for junior scaffolders
• Crisis management during emergency rescues

Qualifications & Experience

Mandatory

• Grade 12 Certificate
• Advanced Scaffolding Certificate (ZAQA-verified)
• First Aid + Silicosis Awareness Certification
• EIZ Membership

Preferred Experience

• 5+ years in heavy industry scaffolding
• Copper smelter/acid plant exposure
• SAP PM for scaffold work order management

Work Conditions

✔ 24/7 call-out for emergency scaffolding
✔ Exposure to sulfuric acid mists and high-noise areas
✔ PPE Requirements:

• Acid-resistant coveralls
• 100% tie-off at ≥1.8m
• Impact helmets with chin straps
