Responsibilities or duties

The technician is responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining the mechanical, electrical, and trim systems of vehicles.

Diagnosis:

Use diagnostic equipment and interpret technical data to identify faults in engine, gearbox, suspension, and electrical systems.

Repair and Replacement:

Remove and replace mechanical and electrical components, such as braking systems and safety restraint systems, following manufacturer specifications.

System Rebuilding:

Rebuild vehicles post-repair and reinstate safety-critical systems, including airbags and advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS).

Specialized Work:

Handle various vehicle fuel types, handle high-voltage components safely, and manage air conditioning systems (requires refrigerant handling qualification).

Safety and Quality:

Perform tasks safely, comply with operating procedures, and ensure repairs are completed to a high standard of quality.
