VACANCY ADVERTISEMENT: MECHANICAL MAINTENANCE SUPERINTENDENT

Lumwana Mining Company seeks to recruit a highly motivated and committed individual for the position of Mechanical Maintenance Superintendent to join the Process Plant team. We are in search of individuals who can champion Barrick’s DNA by:

Reporting to the Assistant Maintenance Manager, you will be responsible for Improving the reliability and availability of the process maintenance team by building, assessing and continuously improving the equipment availability to increase efficiency and effectiveness of field maintenance and operations processes

Your duties will include but are not limited to the following:

  • Provide strategic leadership and full accountability for mechanical maintenance across all process plant, equipment, and infrastructure.
  • Drive a zero-harm safety culture through strict compliance with OH&S, statutory, and environmental requirements, including routine and risk-based inspections.
  • Develop and execute optimized maintenance strategies (preventive, predictive, RCM) to maximize asset reliability, availability, and lifecycle performance.
  • Lead planning and execution of shutdowns and maintenance work plans to minimize downtime and improve operational efficiency.
  • Own and control the maintenance budget, applying Zero-Based Budgeting principles and ensuring cost optimization.
  • Monitor and analyse key maintenance KPIs (availability, downtime, PM compliance, backlog, planned vs reactive work) to drive performance improvements.
  • Ensure effective work management practices through strong collaboration with maintenance planners and high schedule compliance.
  • Oversee contractor governance, including approval of contractors, review of scopes of work, competencies, and cost structures in line with policies.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance maintenance systems, processes, and overall equipment performance.
  • Ensure workforce competency, compliance, and readiness, with authority to permit or prohibit work based on safety and qualification requirements.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain standardized job procedures and best practices across the maintenance function.
  • Lead team performance management, including coaching, performance reviews, and succession planning.
  • Ensure efficient utilization of maintenance resources and effective backlog management.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with internal stakeholders and external partners, including community engagement initiatives.
  • Support strategic alignment by enabling shared infrastructure and continuous improvement across the organization.

To be considered for the position, you must meet the following requirements:

  • Full Grade 12 Certificate.
  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related fields.
  • Member of Engineering institute of Zambia (EIZ).
  • Minimum 10 years’ experience in mechanical maintenance, preferably within mining or mineral processing environments.
  • Strong technical expertise in maintenance systems, with solid knowledge of predictive and condition-based maintenance methodologies.
  • Proven leadership capability in managing maintenance teams, driving safety performance, and implementing operational excellence initiatives.
  • Experienced in budgeting, cost control, and maintenance financial management, with a strong focus on efficiency and value delivery.
  • Effective communicator with excellent report writing and presentation skills, able to engage at all organizational levels.
  • Proficient in computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) and Microsoft Office applications.
