ABOUT ZAMBIA SUGAR PLC

Zambia Sugar Plc. is an ABF Group sugar company and is the leading sugar producer in Zambia. Its main activities are the growing of sugar cane, the production and marketing of sugar and other sugar downstream products.

The company invites applications from suitably qualified and experienced persons to fill this position under the Manufacturing Department.

OVERALL RESPONSIBILITY

This position reports to the Production Manager. The successful incumbent will be responsible for driving SHERQ and Food Safety compliance and culture in the Raw House.

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS

  • Drive a culture of Zero Harm and compliance to SHERQ & Food Safety Standards.
  • Develop and enforce strategies for improving Boiling House Recovery in the Backend.
  • Lead the Backend Focused Improvement Team (FIT) and promote a culture of multi-disciplinary team approach to problem solving.
  • Ensure that Technical Operating Practices (TOPs) standards are enforced in the Backend.
  • Cascade KPIs and review KPI Boards, Work Instructions, Log sheets and Dashboards to ensure compliance to standards.
  • Enforce MOPs Audits in the Backend and generate gap list for closure.
  • Ensure adherence to Risk Audit requirements.
  • Review performance trends in the Backend and identify focus areas and PIPs.
  • Implement Prototypes and new initiatives and on-board Operatives on new standards.
  • Identify L&D needs within the team and manage training through business partnership.
  • Enforce maintenance strategy in the Backend to improve equipment availability.
  • Ensure adequate stocking of critical consumables and escalating any potential stock-outs to Stores and Line Manager.
  • Ensure that HACCP & HIRA reviews are conducted in the section.
  • Plan for Operational maintenance activities and shutdowns.
  • Implement Best Practices shared from Group (One Centre).
  • Ensure closure of external and internal audit findings.
  • Manage the Molasses Handling and Effluent Systems.
  • Develop operational budgets for Season and Off-Crop.
  • Ensure cross-functional collaboration across disciplines.
  • Coordinate Off-crop inspections in the Backend.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Full Grade 12 Certificate.
  • Preferably Degree in Chemical Engineering or equivalent.
  • Preferably 8+ years’ experience in Sugar Industry.
  • Preferably 5+ years’ experience in Backend/Raw House Operations.
  • Sugar Engineering/Technology Training experience will be an added advantage.
  • Suitably qualified applicants must provide certificates which have been verified by the Zambia Qualifications Authority (ZAQA).
