Job Purpose

The Senior Security Officer will ensure that the security operations are in accordance with the set Aviation Security programme, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and in compliance with the National Security Programme, Government legislation and other regulatory bodies. Ensure compliance with the airline’s security Policy, TCAA, IATA/ICAO and other relevant regulatory requirements.

Summary of Key Responsibilities:

Ensures security procedures such as Pre-flight security checks, Catering security controls, Aircraft access control are performed signed off accordingly;

Audit services provided by ground handling agents against established service standards.

Carry out policies for ground service operations.

Conducts ad-hoc flight (security) observations from check-in to boarding and during arrivals;

Monitor and ensure efficient security service delivery of contracted service providers including Ground Handling Agent (GHA), private security service provider/s (SSP), Cargo Handling Agent, and Catering Service provider/s, as per Service Level Agreements (SLAs)

Ensures, but not limited to, security of aircraft, passenger, crew, baggage, cargo, catering, handling of unruly passengers;

Compiles and files monitoring and inspection (oversight) reports;

Initiates & submits Access Permit Applications and ensures surrender of withdrawn and expired permits;

Prevent, detect and investigate offences committed within the Airline System

Carry out safety measures to ensure safety of passengers.

Convey ground service standards to airport agencies, airline staff and ground handling agents.

Determine learning needs of ground handling agents to address gaps in service delivery.

Report breaches in passenger safety and security standards to the authorities

Ensure that patrolling of assigned posts, gates, buildings, installations, aircraft and all properties of the company and its customers are coordinated and carried out effectively in the assigned shift;

Conducts surprise checks to ensure posts, guard gates, buildings, installations, aircrafts and all properties of the company are secured;

Ensure that all security officers are always vigilant in their assigned duties and are in their proper uniforms and their general disposition is to expected standards of behavior and appearance;

Initiate Security Department related payment requests in respect of services and supplies rendered;

Collect and report to the Heard Security Services, security related information on suspicious persons/activities/incidents/trends that might harm the Airline;

Compile monthly and investigate reports to the Head Security Services;

Prepare and file reports and documents related to flight and ground service operations.

Relay safety and security concerns to the authorities.

Qualifications and Experience

Minimum of a Degree in Social Sciences

Diploma in Security Management or Related Qualification

Must have a minimum of at least 5 years’ experience in Aviation Security

Must have a minimum of AVSEC STP 123 training (current)

Certification as an Instructor, AVSEC Auditor as added advantage

Additional professional qualifications in Aviation Security Management will a plus

Must have proven security management experience in the aviation sector

Proven experience in preparing and presenting security reports

Must be well vested in airline’s security Policy, TCAA, IATA/ICAO and other relevant regulatory requirements.

Previous experience as a Police Officer, Military Police Officer or Security Supervisor will be a plus

Must be well vested in Different Security Systems and CCTV

Must have a knowledge of all emergency policies and procedures

Must have a Clean valid driver’s license

Must have no criminal record
