About the Role
Translation Trainees support MYCP's international team by helping make key materials and communications accessible to young people and partners around the world. This role is designed as an opportunity to develop practical translation experience while working alongside an existing team of translation officers.
As a Translation Trainee, you will contribute to translating content, review and validate translations, and learn about collaborative translation workflows, terminology management, and quality assurance. You will receive guidance from other team members and gain valuable experience working within an international multilingual environment and a global youth-led organisation working in advocacy and policymaking within migration governance.
You will report to the Director of Outreach & Engagement. This is a fully remote volunteer position, with an expected commitment of 3–5 hours per week.
We are particularly looking for trainees working in French, Spanish and Arabic.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with translating documents, communications, and advocacy materials into your assigned language
- Review, proofread, and validate translations completed by current Translation Officers to help ensure quality and consistency
- Learn and apply MYCP's translation standards, terminology, and style guidance
- Collaborate with Translation Officers and other trainees to maintain consistent terminology across projects
- Support language accessibility across MYCP's #THINK, #DELIVER, and #ENGAGE teams to ultimately support the amplification of youth voices in migration governance and policymaking spaces
- Help ensure translations are accurate, culturally appropriate, and accessible for young audiences
- Where appropriate, support multilingual communications for webinars, consultations, or events
What You'll Gain
- Practical experience translating real-world content for an international youth organisation
- Experience reviewing and validating translations as part of a collaborative translation workflow
- An understanding of translation quality assurance, terminology management, and localisation best practices
- Experience working in a diverse, international volunteer team
- Opportunities to strengthen your translation portfolio and develop professional communication skills
- A reference upon successful completion of your volunteering commitment
Person Specification
- Aged between 18 and 30 years old
- Fluent in English and at least one of French, Spanish, or Arabic
- An interest in developing translation and localisation skills (previous professional translation experience is not required)
- Strong written communication skills and a good eye for detail
- Willingness to learn, receive feedback, and collaborate with others
- Ability to manage deadlines and contribute consistently as part of a global team
- Passion for youth engagement and making information accessible across languages
This role is designed for people who may be studying translation or interested in pursuing a career in translation for international organisations. The role will assist the successful candidate to develop skills, rather than expecting existing experience in translation, giving them meaningful responsibilities such as translation review, validation, and collaboration within a professional translation workflow.
We strongly encourage applications from individuals with lived experience of migration, displacement, or statelessness, and from underrepresented communities.
