About Action Against Hunger

Action Against Hunger is a global nonprofit organization working to eradicate hunger worldwide. Action Against Hunger USA manages operations in eight countries, including Zambia, and oversees programs with an annual budget exceeding $100 million.

Role Overview: Finance and Grants Officer Jobs in Lusaka

The Finance and Grants Officer will manage daily financial transactions and procedures for Action Against Hunger Zambia. Reporting directly to the Support Services Manager, this role involves close collaboration with the Senior Management Team and occasional coordination with the Regional Finance Specialist. The officer will ensure accurate financial data, compliance with organizational and donor policies, and efficient resource utilization.

Key Responsibilities

  • Accounting Management: Maintain high-quality accounting by disseminating procedures, recording monthly commitments, conducting bank reconciliations, processing payments, and preparing monthly accounting bundles.
  • Cash Management: Oversee cash flow, ensure compliance with cash management policies, monitor liquidity, prepare treasury forecasts, and act as a bank agent for transactions.
  • Financial and Budgetary Oversight: Establish annual budgets, produce budget follow-ups, monitor spending, perform cost analysis, and lead project audits.
  • Grant Management: Collaborate with the Global Support Office on finance-related updates, monitor project spending, contribute to donor grant management, and prepare for financial audits.
  • Security and Fraud Prevention: Manage cash security, conduct internal audits, report fraud risks, and provide training to staff on financial security.
  • Communication and Training: Provide financial guidance and training to staff, liaise with banks and partners, and participate in donor meetings regarding financial performance.
  • Archival and Documentation: Maintain and archive all finance-related documents according to organizational guidelines.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Management, or related field; MBA or ACCA certification is an advantage.
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in finance, administration, HR, or logistics, preferably within an INGO environment.
  • Strong organizational and planning skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, capable of negotiation, influencing, and teamwork.
  • Demonstrated ability to work under pressure and adapt to changing demands.
  • Commitment to the values of professionalism, transparency, neutrality, and non-discrimination as outlined in the ACF Charter.
  • Experience supervising staff and managing donor-funded programs is preferred.

Internal and External Collaboration

The Finance and Grants Officer will report to the Finance Manager and directly oversee the Finance Intern. The role requires regular interaction with program managers, logistics teams, suppliers, banking institutions, and tax authorities to ensure smooth financial operations.
