JOB PURPOSE

To support the organization in identifying, assessing, and managing credit risks to ensure the Bank operates within its approved risk appetite. The role involves implementing credit risk frameworks, monitoring exposures, and providing strategic insights to safeguard the Bank's financial stability.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Under the supervision of the Chief Risk Officer (CRO), the following are among the job key responsibilities:

GENERAL OPERATIONS

  • To assist the Chief Risk Officer in conducting the Bank's business and affairs in an effective, responsible, and ethical manner, consistent with the principles and direction established by the Board through the strategic plan.
  • To assist the Chief Risk Officer in implementing policies and strategies approved by the Board and communicating them to all relevant staff.
  • To assist the Chief Risk Officer in establishing adequate internal controls supported by an effective internal control function.
  • To assist the Chief Risk Officer in providing the Board with timely and relevant reports on risk management strategies, exposures, practices, and compliance with laws, regulations, supervisory directives, industry codes of conduct, and internal policies.
  • To assist the Chief Risk Officer in overseeing the development and implementation of the Bank's Risk Management function, including setting up the risk management structure and reporting lines.
  • To assist the Chief Risk Officer in supporting the development of the Bank's risk culture, risk appetite, and translating the risk appetite into a risk limits structure, risk identification and assessment methodology, and risk classification (risk universe).
  • To assist the Chief Risk Officer in ongoing monitoring of risk-taking activities and exposures to ensure alignment with the Board-approved risk appetite, risk limits, and corresponding capital or liquidity needs.
  • To assist the Chief Risk Officer in establishing an early warning or trigger system for breaches of the Bank's risk appetite or limits.
  • To assist the Chief Risk Officer in establishing a framework for stress testing and coordinating stress testing activities across the Bank, including developing assumptions and scenarios.
  • To assist the Chief Risk Officer in influencing and, where necessary, challenging material risk decisions.
  • To assist the Chief Risk Officer in continuously driving risk management processes toward best practice.
  • To assist the Chief Risk Officer in ensuring the Bank's risk management infrastructure, particularly data architecture and IT systems, keeps pace with business complexity.
  • To assist the Chief Risk Officer in ensuring accurate internal and external data for risk identification, assessment, strategic decision- making, and determining capital and liquidity adequacy.
  • To assist the Chief Risk Officer in ensuring the risk identification process encompasses all material risks, both on and off- balance sheet.
  • To assist the Chief Risk Officer in ensuring the risk assessment process includes ongoing analysis of existing risks and identification of new or emerging risks, developing mitigation actions.
  • To assist the Chief Risk Officer in coordinating the compilation of the Bank's Internal Capital Adequacy Assessment Process (ICAAP) document.
  • To assist the Chief Risk Officer in advising senior management and the Board on the quantum and direction of the Bank's material risks.
  • To assist the Chief Risk Officer in advising senior management and the Board on the quantum and direction of the Bank's material risks.
  • To assist the Chief Risk Officer in ensuring risk identification and measurement includes both quantitative and qualitative elements, including a bank- wide view of risks relative to the external operating environment.
  • To assist the Chief Risk Officer in providing input into fraud prevention strategy, business continuity plans, and disaster management plans.
  • To assist the Chief Risk Officer in developing and implementing Risk Registers for all business units.
  • To assist the Chief Risk Officer in facilitating orientation and training for the Risk Management Committee and Board Risk Committee and transferring risk management principles through training interventions.
  • To assist the Chief Risk Officer in communicating risk management policy, strategy, and implementation plan to all stakeholders.
  • To assist the Chief Risk Officer in sensitizing management on the need for regular risk assessments for all material risks.
  • To assist the Chief Risk Officer in conducting stress testing on all Bank business functions and as required by the regulator.
  • To assist the Chief Risk Officer in undertaking credit risk evaluation on proposals under the Credit Risk Evaluation Committee.
  • To assist the Chief Risk Officer in the process of Credit Rating as per Bank policies.
  • To assist the Chief Risk Officer in undertaking Credit Risk Modelling of the Bank.

EMPLOYMENT AND CAREER DEVELOPMENT OPPORTUNITIES

  • To assist the Chief Risk Officer in creating, managing, updating, and monitoring credit risk tolerance limits.
  • To assist the Chief Risk Officer in analyzing trends in macroeconomic and industries that may impact the Bank's credit risk.
  • To assist the Chief Risk Officer in formulating and monitoring Credit Risk Weighted Assets measurement templates as per regulatory/BASEL guidelines.

RISK REPORTING

  • To assist the Chief Risk Officer in receiving periodic reports from business units, reviewing trends, aggregating data, and compiling monthly reports on all material risks for senior management.
  • Submit quarterly risk reports to the Board of Directors.

OTHER DUTIES

  • Undertake assignments as directed by the Chief Risk Officer.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND ATTRIBUTES

Strong analytical and data interpretation skills. Decision- making and strategic planning abilities. Deep understanding of credit risk and risk management frameworks. Excellent interpersonal, communication, and negotiation skills.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

Degree in Finance, Economics, Risk Management, or related field. A Master's degree in any of the above fields will be an added advantage. Professional certifications such as CFA, FRM, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent would be preferred. Minimum of 5 years' experience in Credit Assessment/Appraisal/Analysis or Risk Management, with at least 2 years in Credit/Credit Risk.

Knowledge of regulatory requirements and risk management best practices.
