Mika Meats is a reputable meat processing company committed to providing high-quality meat products to customers across Zambia and beyond. Our abattoir in Mongu serves as a critical link in our value chain, ensuring high standards of hygiene, animal welfare, efficiency, and product quality.

JOB PURPOSE

We are looking for a dedicated and experienced Abattoir Supervisor to lead the daily operations of our abattoir in Mongu. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring smooth, efficient, and hygienic slaughter processes while maintaining proper staff supervision, record keeping, production targets, and dispatch activities.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Supervise all abattoir operations including animal sourcing, slaughter, processing, hygiene, waste management, and dispatch.
  • Ensure daily production targets are met in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Manage, train, and supervise all abattoir staff including butchers, cleaners, and support workers.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of livestock received, carcass output, waste disposal, and dispatch logs.
  • Enforce strict hygiene, safety, and animal welfare standards in line with regulatory and company policies.
  • Coordinate with livestock suppliers, veterinary inspectors, and transport teams to ensure timely and compliant operations.
  • Monitor stock levels of tools, equipment, and consumables, and coordinate requisitions where needed.
  • Compile daily, weekly, and monthly operational reports for the Operations Manager.
  • Respond quickly to operational challenges, resolving problems independently or escalating where necessary.
  • Implement and enforce disciplinary measures when required, and promote a culture of responsibility and high performance among staff.

REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum 5 years practical experience in a reputable abattoir environment.
  • Minimum 2 years in a supervisory or leadership role within abattoir or meat processing operations.
  • Strong knowledge of slaughter processes, hygiene practices, and quality assurance in meat production.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English; local language skills an added advantage.
  • Proficient in record keeping, report writing, and basic computer use.
  • Strong multitasking abilities, high levels of initiative, and the discipline to lead by example.
  • Must be highly reliable, accountable, and solution-oriented.
  • Ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines, and manage a diverse team effectively.
  • Must be a resident of Mongu, Limulunga, or surrounding areas for ease of commute and timely reporting.
