JOB SUMMARY/PURPOSE STATEMENT:

The Accountant is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, processing transactions, and supporting financial reporting and compliance activities. This role involves managing general ledger entries, reconciling accounts, preparing financial statements, and ensuring adherence to internal controls and regulatory requirements. In an OMC environment, the Accountant plays a key role in handling Bank transactions, tax computations, and supporting operational finance functions across depots and retail stations.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Record and post daily financial transactions in the ERP system
  • Prepare and reconcile bank statements, supplier accounts, and customer ledgers
  • Assist in preparing monthly financial reports and supporting schedules
  • Ensure timely and accurate processing of accounts payable and receivable
  • Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts and ensure proper documentation
  • Support month-end and year-end closing activities, including journal entries and adjustments
  • Assist in preparing statutory returns such as VAT, PAYE, WHT, and Excise Duty
  • Monitor transactions and ensure proper accounting treatment
  • Participate in internal and external audits by providing required documentation and explanations
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, accounting standards, and regulatory requirements
  • Collaborate with inventory, procurement, and operations teams to resolve financial discrepancies
  • Contribute to process improvements and automation initiatives within the finance department

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in accounting or finance
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance/Accounting or professional accounting certification (ACCA, ZICA, CIMA)
  • Must be an Active member of ZiCA
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly MS Excel
  • Experience with ERP software (SAP or Odoo Preferred)
