Job Purpose
The Assistant Technical Operations Manager is responsible for supporting the efficient operation, maintenance, and administration of technical systems and equipment across the Community Energy Hubs (CEHs). The role includes ensuring the functionality of milk chilling machinery, water pumps, solar systems, and electrical infrastructure. This position requires hands-on technical expertise combined with strong organizational and administrative skills to ensure operational excellence.
Responsibilities
- Assisting in the daily operations and maintenance of technical systems, including milk chilling units, water pumps, and solar power systems;
- Troubleshooting and repairing electrical circuits and refrigeration systems to minimize downtime;
- Ensuring all equipment meets safety and operational standards through regular inspections and preventive maintenance;
- Supporting the design and optimization of power systems for Community Energy Hubs (CEHs), ensuring efficient energy usage;
- Collaborating on technical upgrades and the integration of innovative solutions to enhance operations;
- Preparing and maintaining detailed reports on equipment performance, maintenance schedules, and technical incidents;
- Maintaining accurate records of technical inventory, including spare parts and tools, to ensure timely availability;
- Travelling to various hub locations and other required destinations to oversee operations, support project implementation, and engage with stakeholders as necessary;
- Providing guidance and support to technical assistants, fostering skill development and productivity;
- Coordinating with operations and field teams to address technical challenges and ensuring seamless service delivery;
- Overseeing technical procurement activities, ensuring efficient sourcing and acquisition of specialized goods and services in line with organizational requirements and policies;
- Ensuring adherence to organizational policies and safety protocols during all technical operations;
- Promoting compliance with environmental and operational standards, particularly in relation to solar systems and refrigeration.
Key Skills and Competencies
- Technical Expertise: Hands-on experience with electrical circuits, refrigeration systems (HVAC), and solar power systems.
- Problem-Solving: Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic abilities to address technical challenges effectively.
- Organizational Skills: Ability to manage maintenance schedules, prioritizing tasks, and handling technical documentation.
- Communication: Strong verbal and written skills to collaborate with teams and prepare comprehensive reports on time.
- Power Systems Knowledge: Understanding of system design and energy optimization processes.
- Teamwork: Ability to work collaboratively with technical teams and other departments to achieve operational goals.
Qualifications and Experience
- A Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, or a related technical field.
- At least 2–4 years of experience in a technical operations role, preferably in refrigeration, energy systems, or related industries.
- Practical knowledge of electrical and mechanical systems, with a focus on troubleshooting and maintenance.
- Must be open to traveling out of town as required for work-related assignments, including site visits, installations, maintenance, stakeholder engagements, and other operational needs.
