Job Description:
The Backfilling Engineer will oversee paste backfilling operations, tailing disposal, and water circulation processes at the Chambishi Mine. The role involves planning, coordination, and monitoring to ensure efficient production and compliance with safety standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Plan, organize, and monitor all paste backfilling processes.
- Manage tailing disposal by pumping tailings to the tailing dam.
- Ensure circulation water is pumped to the Concentrator/Backfilling plant for production.
- Act as a liaison between Operations and Management teams to maintain backfilling plant availability.
- Optimize the use of consumables (e.g., flocculants, cement, spares/tools).
- Lead, monitor, and develop subordinates while enforcing disciplinary and mining regulations.
- Communicate plant status (safety, production, maintenance) to superiors and subordinates.
- Perform additional tasks as assigned by the supervisor.
Qualifications:
- Full Grade 12 School Certificate.
- University degree in Metallurgy or Chemical Engineering from an accredited institution.
- Member of the Engineering Institution of Zambia (EIZ).
- Minimum 3 years’ experience, preferably in the mining sector.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, analytical, and time management skills.
- Keen attention to detail.
