Tongabezi Trust School (TTS) is a community-rooted institution committed to delivering high quality inclusive education, promoting child safeguarding, and advancing skills development and tertiary learning opportunities through its mission “to serve rural and vulnerable children and adults of Simonga community by providing inclusive, holistic and high-quality education, skills development and employment opportunities’.
As part of its governance structure, TTS seeks to strengthen its Board of Governors with experienced and passionate individuals who will provide strategic oversight, policy guidance, and advocacy for the school’s mission.
Purpose of the Board of Governors
The Board of Governors serves as the strategic decision makers and control the Management of Tongabezi Trust School (Tujatane and Twaabane centre), ensuring that the institution adheres to its mission, maintains sound governance practices, and delivers impactful educational programming. Board members contribute their expertise, time, and networks to support the school’s growth and sustainability.
Profile of Ideal Candidates
Tongabezi Trust School invites expressions of interest from individuals who meet the following criteria:
- Professional Experience:
- Proven expertise in education programming, school leadership, or curriculum development
- Demonstrated experience in governance, including policy formulation, systems strengthening, financial management and / or institutional oversight
- Currently serving in a related role within Livingstone or surrounding areas of Zambia’s Southern Province
- Personal Attributes:
- Deep passion for children’s education and Child safeguarding services
- Strong interest in skills development, vocational training, and tertiary education
- High level of integrity, commitment, and collaborative spirit
- Availability & Commitment:
- Willingness to donate time voluntarily to support the school’s governance
- Availability for at least three (3) in-person or virtual meetings per year
- Availability for additional virtual engagements as part of subcommittees or advisory consultation
- Willing to participate in strategic planning, policy review, and institutional development activities
Roles and Responsibilities
Board members will be expected to:
- Provide strategic guidance and oversight on school operations and development
- Review and advise on policies, budgets, and institutional plans
- Support resource mobilization and stakeholder engagement efforts
- Advocate for the school’s mission within their networks and professional circles
- Ensure compliance with regulatory and ethical standards
- Participate in performance reviews and institutional evaluations
- Serve on subcommittees as needed (e.g., finance, academic affairs, infrastructure)
- Provide strategic guidance and oversight on school operations and development
- Review and advise on policies, budgets, and institutional plans
- Support resource mobilization and stakeholder engagement efforts
- Advocate for the school's mission within networks and professional circles
- Ensure compliance with regulatory and ethical standards
- Participate in performance reviews and institutional evaluations
