The Opportunity

We are seeking a highly motivated and strategic Business Development Manager to join our dynamic team in Lusaka. This is a senior role critical to the firm’s growth, responsible for driving business development initiatives across all of our practice areas.

The successful candidate will be tasked with identifying new client opportunities, deepening existing client relationships, and enhancing the firm’s market standing. You will work in close collaboration with the firm’s partners to design and execute a sophisticated business development strategy that leverages our multi-disciplinary strengths and capitalises on market opportunities across the Zambian and regional economy.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Strategic Market Growth: Develop and execute a comprehensive business development plan that promotes growth across the firm’s diverse practice areas, including corporate, litigation, real estate, and specialised sectors like energy and healthcare.
  • Pipeline & Client Development: Proactively identify and cultivate a robust pipeline of high-value clients. Build and nurture lasting relationships with key decision-makers, industry leaders, and strategic partners across various sectors.
  • Cross-Selling Initiatives: Work with partners and legal teams to identify and capitalise on cross-selling opportunities within our existing client base, ensuring clients benefit from the full range of our legal services.
  • Brand & Market Positioning: Enhance the market profile and brand of RBGLP as a leading full-service law firm. Represent the firm at key industry events, business forums, and conferences covering the spectrum of our expertise.
  • Proposal & Pitch Leadership: Lead the creation of compelling, high-quality proposals, tenders, and pitch presentations. Tailor our value proposition to meet the specific needs of prospective clients in any sector.
  • Client Relationship Management: Oversee and optimise the firm’s Client Relationship Management (CRM) system to ensure client and prospect data is effectively managed and leveraged for strategic growth.
  • Market Intelligence: Gather, analyse, and disseminate market intelligence on clients, competitors, and industry trends to inform firm-wide strategy, identify emerging legal needs, and guide new service offerings.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, Law, Economics, or a related field. An MBA or other relevant postgraduate qualification is a significant advantage.
  • A minimum of 3-5 years of successful business development or strategic client management experience, ideally within a professional-services, legal, banking, or top-tier corporate environment.
  • Essential: A strong, established, and diverse professional network within the Zambian business community.
  • Demonstrable commercial acumen and a sophisticated understanding of the key economic sectors in Zambia, including but not limited to finance, real estate, construction, telecommunications, energy, and healthcare.
  • Proven ability to think strategically, develop and execute growth plans, and drive revenue.
  • Exceptional interpersonal, negotiation, and presentation skills, with the ability to engage confidently with senior executives and stakeholders.
