Responsibilities or duties

  • Develop and implement survey plans, methodologies, standards, and procedures for legal land surveys.
  • Plan, direct, supervise, and/or conduct surveys to establish and demarcate legal boundaries of properties and land parcels.
  • Survey and lay out subdivisions for rural, urban, and company development projects, including assigned projects.
  • Determine precise land positions using electronic distance measuring equipment, Global Positioning Systems (GPS), and related surveying technologies.
  • Analyze, manage, and present survey data using Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Computer-Aided Design and Drafting (CAD) software.
  • Read, interpret, and apply blueprints, maps, drawings, and technical specifications.
  • Accurately record all measurements, observations, and survey-related information obtained during field activities.
  • Prepare, compile, review, and maintain survey data, plans, charts, records, and legal documentation related to real property boundaries.
  • Certify completed surveys and assume professional responsibility and liability for survey accuracy and compliance.
  • Provide professional advice, technical consultation, and expert opinion on matters relating to legal surveys, including testimony when required.
  • Supervise, coordinate, and mentor land surveyors, survey technologists, technicians, and field crews.

Qualifications or requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Land Surveying or a related field.
  • Registered and licensed Land Surveyor with the relevant professional body.
  • Successful completion of professional land surveyor examinations is required.
  • A land surveyor's licence is required.
  • A driver’s licence

Experience needed

  • Minimum of 2 years’ practical experience in legal land surveying.
  • Proven experience in subdivision surveys and boundary demarcation.
