POSITION:
CARPENTER
JOB PURPOSE:
The School Carpenter (SC), working under the supervision of the Administrative Executive is responsible for producing required office, classroom and other facility cabinetry and furnishings, replacing or repairing window fittings as needed, and servicing, installing and maintaining doors and door hardware in the company. The School Carpenter also certifies work performed by contractors as complete and in accordance with standards prescribed by the Company.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Constructs work spaces and facilities such as counters, temporary partitions, walls, cabinets, mill work, etc, for the purpose of modifying and/or adapting facilities to specific needs.
- Installs facility component parts, classroom and office equipment such as doors, windows, shelving, molding, paneling, dry wall, suspended ceilings, etc, for the purpose of maintaining facilities in a safe, comfortable and operating condition.
- Detect needed repairs of all cabinetry, furniture and other frame fittings, of both the interior and exterior facilities.
- Informs Supervisor regarding procedures and/or status of assigned work for the purpose of providing necessary information for making decisions, taking appropriate actions, and/or complying with health and safety regulations.
- Maintains tools and/or equipment for the purpose of ensuring the availability of equipment in safe operating condition.
- Repairs facility components such as office and classroom furniture (tables, desks and chairs, play equipment, cabinets, locks, roofs, emergency exit devices, latches, closures, hinges, glazing, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring that items are available and in safe working condition
- Select material and hardware and make time and materials estimates, and ensure to complete assigned work in time.
- Maintain inventory of company owned tools, equipment and materials.
- Inspect jobs upon completion and ensure work areas are clean.
- Maintain accurate records on material and labor used in collaboration with the supervisor.
- Respond to emergency calls as needed.
- Clear away debris from a renovation or any work area.
- Perform any other tasks, duties or functions within the realm of the appointment, as well as attending to any other official duties as assigned from time to time.
KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE & PERSONAL COMPETENCIES
- Full Grade 12 certificate
- At least a College Diploma in Carpentry or Joinery
- Must have practical experience of at least 2 years with good references
- Advanced understanding of general maintenance procedures and techniques
- Physically capable and available to work overtime including weekends, public holidays, and evenings
- Must be well-organized and have the ability to prioritize tasks
- Good administrative and interpersonal skills, and communication skills - both oral and written
- Strong critical thinking, problem-solving skills
- Must hold high levels of integrity and professionalism
- Must be Creative, Flexible, Transparent, Hardworking and enthusiastic approach towards work
