The Construction Manager will oversee and coordinate all on-site construction activities for the Lumwana Expansion Project, focusing on Electrical and Instrumentation (E&I) works. This role ensures that all works are completed safely, on time, within budget, and in line with South African trade competency standards while fully complying with Zambian statutory requirements.

Key Responsibilities

Plan, direct, and supervise all E&I construction activities in accordance with project schedules and technical specifications
Lead and manage supervisors, foremen, and subcontractors to ensure high performance in safety, quality, and productivity
Oversee all electrical installations, instrumentation works, and associated mechanical interfaces
Ensure full compliance with SANS codes, South African Bargaining Council standards, and Zambian Labour Law
Approve method statements, risk assessments, and QA/QC documentation
Manage and allocate manpower, materials, and equipment resources effectively
Track progress, adjust work plans, and resolve on-site challenges to meet project deadlines
Coordinate closely with the Site Manager on reporting, risk management, and resource planning
Liaise with engineering, procurement, and logistics teams to ensure timely delivery of materials and equipment
Conduct inspections, Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT), Site Acceptance Tests (SAT), and commissioning oversight
Mentor junior technical staff and ensure skills transfer to local Zambian employees

Minimum Qualifications & Requirements

Education & Trade Qualifications

NQF Level 2: Occupational Certificate (Electrical Engineering – Construction) – Foundation level
NQF Level 3: Occupational Certificate (Electrical Engineering – Construction) – Intermediate level
NQF Level 4: Occupational Certificate (Electrical Engineering – Construction) – Advanced artisan level
Electrical Trade Test Certificate – NQF Level 4, recognised by the South African National Artisan Moderation Body (NAMB)
Instrument Mechanician Trade Test Certificate – NQF Level 4, recognised by NAMB

Experience

Minimum 7 years’ experience in management role, with at least 5 years in large-scale mining or industrial E&I projects
Proven track record in managing multidisciplinary teams under technical and safety standards
Familiarity with SANS electrical installation standards and industrial instrumentation systems

Skills & Competencies

Strong leadership, planning, and organisational skills
Excellent technical knowledge in electrical and instrumentation systems
Strong safety awareness and commitment to quality
Effective communication and problem-solving skills
Ability to perform under pressure in a remote mining environment

Working Conditions

Site-based at Lumwana Expansion Project (remote mining location)
Extended hours, shift work, and weekend work as needed
Outdoor work in all weather conditions
Full PPE compliance at all times
