The LUSAKA APEX MEDICAL UNIVERSITY (LAMU) is a privately owned University, accredited by the Higher Education Authority (HEA) under the Higher Education Amendment Act No. 23 of 2021 to provide Higher Education in Medical Education. LAMU is regulated by the Health Professions Council of Zambia (HPCZ), Nursing & Midwifery Council of Zambia (NMCZ), Technical Education, Vocational and Entrepreneurship Training Authority (TEVETA). Lusaka Apex Medical University is therefore looking for mature, proactive, highly motivated and result-oriented Zambians with high degree of credibility to fill the following position.

1.  DEAN—FACULTY OF PHARMACY, NUTRITION AND DIETETICS

JOB PURPOSE

To manage the academic, research and administrative duties and activities of the Faculty in an effective and efficient manner in order to produce high-caliber graduates who will in turn provide quality health services to the community at large,

RESPONSIBILITIES/ DUTIES

1.      Initiates and formulates and/or reviews policies and procedures governing the operation of the Faculty, including work manuals and related documentation in order to have in place a sound framework and foundation to achieve Faculty plans and objectives.

2.      Ensures that approved policies and plans are effectively implemented by all Faculty Departments such as Pharmacology, Nutrition and Dietetics through received reports and set benchmarks, taking corrective action as necessary.

3.      Supervises teaching and learning activities in all Departments of the Faculty, including conducting periodic tests and assignments for student continuous assessments, administration of examination processes and procedures, marking and publication of results in conformity with set teaching and practice standards and methodologies according to each respective area of specialization for both undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.

4.      Spearheads the development and review of curricula in the Faculty to meet the demands of the industry/society regularly in keeping with trends and improvements in technology and research findings in the fields of Pharmacy, Nutrition and Dietetics.

5.    Oversees the enrollment of students and superintends over the registration process to ensure accountability and that programmes are sufficiently subscribed for effective planning.

6.      Stimulates and spearheads research activities to generate new knowledge, mobilizing resources, coordinating and supervising all research activities with the aid of subordinates, and ensuring that research results are published and disseminated through journals, conferences, and seminars.

7.  Coordinates and finalizes the budget for the Faculty upon receipt of submissions and proposals from subordinates for incorporation into the University budget once approved.

8.  Prepares quarterly and annual operational performance reports highlighting achievements and challenges against set objectives and plans and targets for Management information and use.

9.  Mentor students and staff in the Faculty of Pharmacy, Nutrition and Dietetics so that they can achieve their highest potential.

10.    Develops and provides social programmes and support for students to aid learning in liaison with other relevant academic and non-academic departments.

11.    Collaborates on a regular basis through established fora and own initiative with other faculties/departments in order to interchange knowledge and ideas for the good of the institution.

12.    Keeps up to date with relevant student and/or teaching resources, including appropriate modern tools and techniques to ensure provision of high-quality services and efficient running of the Faculty of Pharmacy, Nutrition and Dietetics.

13.    Initiates and takes part in outreach programmes aimed at providing a service to vulnerable and disadvantaged communities offering free treatment, education and support.

 Qualifications and Experience:

  • Grade 12 Twelve Certificate with credit in English and Mathematics
  • Bachelor of Pharmacy Degree
  • Master’s in Pharmacy, Pharmaceutical Field, or equivalent
  • PhD in Pharmacy, Pharmaceutical Field, or equivalent
  • Valid HPCZ practicing License

Experience:

10 years of teaching experience, inclusive of 5 years of administrative and supervisory exposure.

Leadership Skills:

Provides sound leadership and mentorship to teaching staff and students to ensure adherence to professional ethics and standards
