JOB PURPOSE:
- To ensure the formulation and control of all programs and services in the University which are aimed at promoting the welfare of students, their relationships, and other matters which affect students’ quality of life outside of academia.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Lead the University in building and maintaining a strong, positive, achievement-oriented school culture where students thrive and achieve their desired career and professional goals.
- Manage student behavioural programs for the University and model how to establish strong, mutually respectful relationships with students and families.
- Collaborate with academic departments and faculties to support student academic success.
- Perform liaison responsibilities between the University administration and the student populace, including communication of all significant matters affecting either party.
- Maintain managerial oversight over student organizations, clubs, and activities that contribute to a positive student experience.
- Attend to student concerns and needs within the University administration and proactively engage various stakeholders in addressing such concerns.
- Attend to parents and other external parties making enquiries on a variety of matters relating to student welfare.
- Maintain a safe and respectful campus environment by enforcing codes of conduct and addressing student behaviour that violates University policies.
- Enforce rules and regulations governing student behaviour in line with student policies, procedures, and University rules.
- Plan and implement a calendar of events for student activities per semester.
- Coordinate University responses to crises and emergencies, ensuring the safety of students and the welfare of the University.
- Submit reports on student affairs to management.
- Identify and source bursaries and scholarships for needy students.
- Provide a range of support services to students, including academic advising, counselling, career guidance, and health services.
- Participate in the development, implementation, and communication of University policies and procedures related to student affairs, conduct, and services.
- Collaborate with various stakeholders, including students, faculty, staff, parents, and external partners to promote a culture of respect and academic excellence.
- Participate in community activities and programmes that support student welfare and learning.
- Provide support for student counselling.
SKILLS AND BEHAVIOURAL ATTRIBUTES:
- Temperament to handle students.
- Tact and persuasiveness to intervene, diffuse, and settle potential conflict situations.
- Human relations skills in dealing with parents/guardians, academic institutions, government offices, and the general public.
- Passion and commitment to provide service to students even at odd hours.
- Ability to articulate matters of student welfare at all levels of management.
- Empathy and ability in student counselling.
- Computer skills.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Excellent analytical skills.
- Attention to detail.
- Planning, organising, and coordination skills.
- Problem-solving skills.
- Administration skills.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Full Grade 12 Certificate.
- 1st Degree in Education or Social Sciences.
- Masters Degree in Education or Social Sciences obtained with a research thesis component.
- Computer literate.
- Age: Above 25 years.
- 2 years work experience.
- Professional membership is a must.
