JOB PURPOSE:
- To provide leadership and strategic direction and to oversee the development and implementation of the University’s strategic goals in the areas of research, innovation, consultancy, grants, and partnerships.
- To direct the University’s research and innovation strategy and priorities.
- To manage regulatory, administrative, compliance, and research support initiatives and develop policies that guide the conduct of research.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Providing leadership for research, innovation, and consultancy.
- Ensuring University compliance on all activities and operations involving innovation, research, and consultancy.
- Implementing all University research and consultancy activities.
- Spearheading and fostering the linkage of the University’s research and innovation agenda to all University stakeholders.
- Overseeing all research and innovative activities of the University.
- Preparing reports on all University research, innovation, and consultancy activities.
- Developing and implementing the University research, innovation, and consultancy strategy.
- Building strong management and leadership teams for research, innovation, and consultancy.
- Identifying and negotiating research, innovation, and consultancy collaborative agreements on behalf of the University.
- Sourcing consultancy opportunities for the University.
- Managing research grants and contracts.
- Ensuring quality research output and publication in high-impact journals.
- Patenting Intellectual Property and commercializing all University research outputs.
- Developing innovation hubs, business incubators, and industrial parks within the University.
- Ensuring adherence to set and required research standards.
- Preparing periodic reports for all funders.
- Facilitating the establishment of research infrastructure.
- Collaborating with national, regional, and international research institutions.
- Fostering strong linkages with industry for research, innovation, and consultancy purposes.
- Mobilizing financial resources for all University research, innovation, and consultancy activities.
- Generating financial resources through research, innovation, and consultancies to contribute to the financial sustainability of the University.
- Ensuring that the University has appropriate capacity and competencies in research, innovation, and consultancy.
- Facilitating a conducive environment for an effective performance management system for research, innovation, and consultancy.

- Full Grade 12 Certificate
- First Degree in relevant field from a recognized and reputable University
- Master’s Degree in a related field obtained with a research thesis component
- PhD in a relevant field
- Must be an Associate Professor or Professor
- Must have at least five (5) years of work experience post-PhD qualification
- Must have at least five (5) years of work experience at the senior management level
- Must show evidence of quality research output and publication in high-impact journals in the past five (5) years
- Must demonstrate the ability to source funds and show proof of revenue generation in the past five (5) years
- Must have a track record of consultancy work
- Must be computer literate
- Age: Above 40 years
- Professional membership is a must
