Job Purpose
The Independent Food Auditor Contractor is responsible for conducting independent inspections and audits to ensure food safety, hygiene, and regulatory compliance in retail stores and distribution centers. This role supports AssureCloud’s commitment to upholding high standards in food handling and occupational health, helping clients mitigate risks and maintain safe environments for consumers.
The position is based in Zambia and operates on a contract basis as an independent contractor.
Key Responsibilities
Conducting Food Safety Inspections
- Perform scheduled on-site inspections at retail stores and distribution centers.
- Evaluate food handling, preparation, storage, and sanitation practices for adherence to legal, regulatory, and client-specific standards.
Ensuring Audit Compliance
- Verify compliance with established food safety and hygiene guidelines in retail environments.
- Review essential records, including temperature logs, cleaning schedules, employee training documents, pest control reports, and occupational health and safety (OHS) documentation.
- Assess food premises, procedures, and practices against predefined standards.
- Follow client-specific behavioral protocols during audits and site visits.
- Collaborate with the Sector Manager to address and resolve any disputes.
- Prepare electronic non-conformance reports (NCRs) for each audit, documenting the date, start/end times, closing meeting discussions, and signatures from the auditor and store representatives.
Reporting and Documentation
- Compile clear, accurate, and concise audit reports using objective evidence collected during evaluations.
Job Requirements
Qualifications
- Tertiary qualification in Food Technology, Food Science, Environmental Health, Biotechnology, or Microbiology.
Experience
- Minimum of 2 years in food safety or occupational health and safety auditing, or food safety inspections.
- Proven track record in conducting food safety inspections, audits, or similar roles within the food industry.
Skills
- Strong analytical and observational skills for thorough evaluations.
- Proficiency in using electronic reporting tools and documentation software.
- Excellent communication skills for interacting with clients, store representatives, and managers.
- Ability to work independently with strong time management and organizational skills.
- Dispute resolution and problem-solving abilities.
Knowledge
- In-depth understanding of R638 requirements under the Foodstuffs, Cosmetics and Disinfectants Act 54 of 1972.
- Knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act 85 of 1993 and its regulations.
- Familiarity with food industry best practices, hygiene standards, and risk assessment.
- Valid driver’s license and access to a reliable personal vehicle for travel to sites.
