Eastern Tropical Fruit Company Limited (ETF) is jointly owned by Zambia Fruit Company and Vitaplus Foods Limited, under the Industrial Development Corporation (IDC). The Company operates a hybrid fruit and vegetable processing plant located in Katete District, Eastern Province of Zambia.
Role Overview
The General Manager is responsible for the overall strategic direction, leadership, and operational management of Eastern Tropical Company Limited. This role involves overseeing all aspects of the business, including production, finance, sales and marketing, human resources, and supply chain, to ensure the company achieves its business objectives, maximizes profitability, and maintains operational excellence. The General Manager will be the primary point of contact with key stakeholders, including the Industrial Development Corporation, and will drive sustainable growth and innovation in the agro-processing sector.
Key Roles and Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership and Planning:
- Develop and implement the company’s strategic plan in alignment with the goals of Zambia Fruit Company and the Industrial Development Corporation.
- Set clear short-term and long-term goals for all departments and monitor performance against these objectives.
- Identify new business opportunities, market trends, and potential areas for growth to enhance the company’s competitive position.
Operational Management:
- Oversee all daily operations of the processing plant, ensuring efficiency, quality, and adherence to production targets.
- Ensure all processes comply with food safety, quality control, and health and safety standards.
- Manage the budget, financial performance, and resource allocation to ensure fiscal responsibility and profitability.
- Regularly review and optimize operational processes to improve productivity and reduce costs.
Financial and Budgetary Management:
- Prepare and manage the annual budget, financial forecasts, and capital expenditure plans.
- Analyze financial reports to identify trends, variances, and opportunities for improvement.
- Ensure accurate and timely financial reporting to the Board of Directors and other relevant stakeholders.
- Oversee inventory management, procurement, and supply chain logistics to optimize cash flow and reduce waste.
Human Resources and Team Leadership:
- Lead and mentor the management team and all factory staff, fostering a culture of high performance, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Oversee all HR functions, including recruitment, training, performance management, and employee relations.
- Ensure a positive and productive work environment that adheres to all labor laws and company policies.
Sales, Marketing, and Stakeholder Relations:
- Drive the sales and marketing strategy to expand market share and achieve revenue targets.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with key customers, suppliers, government bodies, and the local community.
- Serve as the main liaison between the company, the Board of Directors, and external partners.
Professional Qualification:
- Grade 12 Certificate with five (5) O Levels.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Production Management, Business Administration,
- Food Science, or other relevant field and / or professional qualifications from a reputable institution.
- Master’s Degree in Business Administration, Engineering, Food Science, or related field.
- Professional membership to a relevant body.
- Minimum of 10 years’ experience, with 5 years at senior management level in manufacturing, agribusiness, or industrial operations.

- Excellent stakeholder engagement and relationship management.
- Proven ability in strategy formulation and execution.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
- Solid understanding of business operations, governance, and industry processes.
